Sherri Shepherd, 58, just landed herself a role of a Lifetime in the upcoming film “Angel in the Rubble,” telling the story of 9/11 survivor Genelle Guzman, who was recorded as the last person rescued from the debris of the World Trade Center after an astounding 27 hours trapped beneath the load-bearing wreckage.
Shepherd, whose eponymous talk show was cancelled in February mid-season, shared the news of her new movie role on Instagram, celebrating her monumental success just weeks after it was announced that her show was coming to an end.
Sherri Shepherd Lands Role of a Lifetime
“Sometimes you have to sit and be still… Excited to announce that I will be starring in the @lifetimetv original movie, Angel in the Rubble, the fourth project under the Robin Roberts Presents banner. Executive produced by Robin Roberts via her Rock’n Robin Productions, the film stars actress, Sherri Shepherd (hey that’s me!) who also executive produces, as Genelle Guzman, a New York City transit employee who was the last survivor pulled from the debris at Ground Zero and who spent 27 hours trapped in the rubble,” Shepherd shared on Instagram.
“Slated to premiere in September in remembrance of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the movie is based on Genelle Guzman-McMillan’s memoir Angel in the Rubble: The Miraculous Rescue of 9/11’s Last Survivor,” Shepherd continued.
“Angel in the Rubble recounts the extraordinary survival of Genelle Guzman (Sherri Shepherd), a NYC transit worker who was buried beneath the collapse of Tower One on 9/11 and trapped for 27 harrowing hours,” the post added of the Lifetime movie. “Executive producers are Robin Roberts, Linda Berman, Anne Carlucci and Sherri Shepherd.”

Guzman’s miraculous story of survival is unlike any other in history. While working inside of the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, Guzman, 30 years old at the time, desperately tried to make her way from the 64th floor to safety, People reported. With the impact of the plane striking the tower, Guzman’s efforts to flee came to what seemed like an inescapable end — until her faith and dedicated first responders, who never gave up, saved her life.
