Sherri Shepherd Addresses Show Cancellation During First Episode Back on Air

The news broke on February 4 that Sherri Shepherd’s daytime talk show, “Sherri,” had been canceled after four seasons. Since the news, the host has provided her initial thoughts. Now, on her first day back on the air, she graciously thanked fans for their support over the years.

Shepherd took to her show on February 9 to give a live, in-person reaction to the news. Luckily, the X account Block Topickz posted the full clip. She said, “This is a hard moment for all of us here at ‘Sherri,’ and I know that you have seen the news, and I’m ready to address it.

Our show has not been renewed for another season.” Her live studio audience then reacted with sorrow. Shepherd then joked, telling the audience, “Try not to faint or fallout because healthcare is expensive and none of us have it anymore,” alluding to the show being canceled.

Sherri Shepherd Says She’s Overwhelmed

The beloved daytime talk show host continued, “But I have to say, I’m truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love that I have received from all of you. So, from the audience to everyone on social media to people who stop me in the store and still talk to me despite me not having a wig on, they still talk to me.

From the emails and the texts, the messages, I feel every bit of the love that you’ve been sending to me. And thank you so much. Thank you. I wanna say from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I thank you for welcoming me into your homes every single day.”

From there, Shephered thanked her audience for “laughing and crying” along with her over the years. She also stated that her show was “built on joy” and her intent in doing the show was to make people happy.

She continued, “It has been my dream to have a talk show, and I’m so grateful I got the chance to do it for four seasons.” Shephered then reiterated that the show will continue to air throughout the fall and that she would fight to keep the show alive in some way, shape, or form.”

Her Production Team Had Kind Words For the Host Amid the News

Variety reported on February 4 that production company Debmar-Mercury, also behind “The Wendy Williams Show,” had not renewed the series. Notably, the news came the same day as the announcement of Kelly Clarkson ending her daytime talk show.

Debmar-Mercury co-presidents Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus released a statement on the cancellation. They said, “This decision is driven by the evolving daytime television landscape and does not reflect on the strength of the show, its production – which has found strong creative momentum this season – or the incredibly talented Sherri Shepherd. We believe in this show and in Sherri and intend to explore alternatives for it on other platforms.”

“Sherri” premiered in September 2022. Currently, there are plans for the daytime talk show to continue into the fall, as it was previously renewed for the 2025-2026 television season. Shepherd, who is also an actress and comedian, is currently on tour.
