The legendary rock band Bon Jovi is headed to the big screen in a new biopic. After a bidding war to tell the Bon Jovi story, Universal came out on top, and fans will get to see the story behind the infamous band.
Bon Jovi Scores New Biopic
Ever since Bon Jovi catapulted onto the music scene in 1984 with their first single, “Runaway”, fans have been obsessed with the guys. The Jersey Boys have had a lasting impact on the music industry and its fans for over 4 decades.
Now they are ready to tell the story fans haven’t seen before. Deadline was the first to break the news that Universal is moving forward with the biopic. The movie is in the very early stages, but it has been confirmed that it will focus on the early years of Bon Jovi, up through the success of their third album, Slippery When Wet.
This marks the first time a motion picture will be made about the band. However, a four-part documentary on the band, “Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story,” was released on Hulu in 2024 to mark Bon Jovi’s 40th Anniversary.
Bon Jovi was formed in 1983 with original band members: lead singer Jon Bon Jovi, guitarist Richie Sambora, keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres, and bassist Alec John Such.
In 1984, Such left the band, and Hugh McDonald was brought in to replace him. The band underwent another change in 2013, when Sambora left and was replaced by Phil X, aka Theofilos Xenidis.
Music biopics have been very popular over the last few years, with movies like “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Elvis,” and “Bob Marley: One Love” finding huge success.
Bon Jovi Back on Tour
2026 is proving to be quite the year for Bon Jovi. Along with the exciting movie news, the band’s gearing up for its first tour in four years. The Forever Tour kicks off this July in New York City and then heads over to Ireland and the United Kingdom, wrapping up in the fall.
The tour comes after lead singer Bon Jovi underwent vocal cord surgery in 2022 following an issue he had been struggling with for over a decade. It wasn’t an easy road to recovery, but the singer’s back and ready to hit the stage to do what he loves: make fans happy through music.
“There is a lot of joy in this announcement,” Bon Jovi said when revealing the band was going back on tour last fall.
