Fans Send Love to Angie Stone & D’Angelo’s Son After Losing Both Parents Months Apart

Fans are pouring out love and support for Swayvo Twain, the son of late music legends Angie Stone and D’Angelo, after the heartbreaking loss of both his parents within six months. D’Angelo, the pioneering R&B and neo-soul artist, passed away Tuesday at 51 after a private battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born Michael Eugene Archer, the Grammy-winning singer left behind a legacy of soul classics, including “Brown Sugar,” “Voodoo,” and “Black Messiah.”

Swayvo Twain Faces Double Loss

Although D’Angelo was never married, he shared a longtime relationship with fellow singer Angie Stone, with whom he had a son, Michael Archer II, known professionally as Swayvo Twain.

Stone herself died earlier this year at 63 following a tragic car crash, leaving Twain to face an unimaginable double loss.

A Son Carrying Two Musical Legacies

Following his father’s death, fans have celebrated Twain for continuing both parents’ legacies through his own art. The 26-year-old Atlanta-based musician has embraced his roots while building his identity as a rapper and singer.

In 2023, Twain gave his father a special 49th birthday gift by releasing a personal remix of D’Angelo’s 1996 track “S–t, Damn, M—–f—-r” from “Brown Sugar.”

“I kinda was trying to take the fact of it being my dad out of the equation, and just really take what I got given to me and make something out of it,” Twain told Rolling Out at the time. “The bass line is crazy, so I wanted to flip it to a club anthem. I took a classic and made something new so I definitely want people to see my musical mind.”

Twain’s creative journey has been deeply inspired by both parents’ journeys — his father’s soulful innovation and his mother’s gospel-rooted power.

Honoring His Mother’s Legacy

After Stone’s passing in March, Twain shared a video clip from MTV’s “Family Legacy,” where he appeared alongside his mother. In the episode, the two watched D’Angelo’s iconic “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” video, prompting Stone to playfully note that her son “inherited his father’s lips and mouth.”

Embarrassed but smiling, Twain tried to change the subject. Later, in a heartfelt Instagram post, he reflected on the moment and expressed his gratitude for his mother’s influence.

“I used to try to separate myself from my parents ’cause it always felt like I was fated to be in their shadows forever,” he wrote. “But thankfully, long before momma left I learned to embrace them and their legacy full on. I’m blessed and happy to have had this moment with my momma, man.”

He added, “She would’ve loved this, and the fact y’all edited this in good faith like promised tells me we’re part of the Paramount family. I got faith in y’all, and I’m glad to have had this opportunity to share my momma with the world.”

In a recent post shared in March 2025, Twain honored his late mother with an emotional message that moved fans to tears.

“Hey mama, I ain’t want nothing, just wanted to say I love you,” he wrote. “I know you up there enjoying your god body. I hope you got to see grandma and granddaddy. I want you to know how proud I am of the person you are.”

He continued, “You never failed me ever, ever. You never were a burden to me EVER. If I had to do it all again, I wouldn’t change nothing. I’m so grateful for the lessons that I learned from you. I hope to one day be as good to my kids as you were to me. I just wanted you to know that I got it from here, imma be okay … and imma LONG LIVE YOU 4Ever. Love you mama.”

Twain’s strength and vulnerability have moved fans across the world, sparking an outpouring of love and support as many continue to honor the legacies of Angie Stone and D’Angelo. The two soul legends left behind timeless music and a son whose passion ensures their voices and love will continue to live on.
