Donnie Wahlberg Makes Rare Comments on His Relationship with Adults Sons

Donnie Wahlberg is a multi-talented star, and in addition to being a great talent in both the entertainment and music industries, he is also a dedicated dad. Wahlberg is a father to two sons, Xavier and Elijah, whom he shares with ex-wife Kim Fey.

In an interview with People published on December 19, Wahlberg spoke about his sons, both of whom are adults now, and how they inspired his role as Danny Reagan on “Boston Blue,” a spin-off of the hit series “Blue Bloods.”

Donnie Wahlberg Reveals Similarities Between Real Life & Onscreen

“I love the relationship I have with my sons, and I do like having fun and bringing a little of that with me to my TV relationship,” he told People. “I think Danny parents a lot different than me, though. He’s a lot tougher than I am. I’m definitely bringing some of the softer side to Danny, which is a more of a reflection of my parenting.”

The New Kids on the Block musician also reflected on how some fans don’t find the series’ storyline believable because Reagan relocates from New York City to Boston, Massachusetts, to be with his son. “So many people say, ‘Well, Danny would never leave New York. It’s not believable, and his son wouldn’t want him in Boston,’ he said. “I have a 24-year-old son, and I can’t tell you how many times he’s asked me in the last year to move back to California to be close to him.”

Would Donnie Wahlberg Leave Chicago?

Wahlberg lives in Chicago, and he loves that his son wants him to relocate. Although he and his wife, Jenny McCarthy, are really happy where they live, the actor admits that if he were to move, it would be because of his love for his boys. “Probably the only thing that could ever get me back to California is my two sons. And if they keep asking, Jenny and I are going to start going on realtor.com and figuring things out,” he shared.

So, for all those doubting the authenticity of “Boston Blue,” Wahlberg is not concerned because he knows how close it is to life. “It’s the most wonderful feeling in my personal life, and I’m watching it play out in my TV life,” he said. “Every time there’s a doubt that this guy would stay in town, I just think of my son’s text, and I say, ‘Oh, you think a son wouldn’t want to be close to his Dad?’ There’s no more reason for Danny to leave New York than for his son.”
