The loss clearly struck a personal chord for Eminem, who shared a heartfelt tribute remembering the laughter and memories they shared during their time working together.

Lord Sear, whose real name was Steve Watson, became a familiar voice in hip hop media through his work on Shade 45. The SiriusXM channel, launched by Eminem, developed a loyal audience among rap fans and artists across the genre.

After news of Watson’s death emerged, Shade 45 shared a tribute on social media honoring his impact and the relationships he built over the years.

“Sear was more than a voice on the radio – he was a force, a friend, and family to so many of us!”

The station also announced plans to remember Watson during its programming on Friday.

“Rest easy, Lord Sear. Your family, friends, and all of us on Shade 45 will never forget you,” the statement concluded.

During the tribute broadcast, friends and colleagues are expected to reflect on Watson’s life and share personal memories of the influential radio host.

The death of Lord Sear comes at another painful time for the rapper.

Reports say Eminem’s maternal grandmother, Betty, died this week at age 87 following complications from breast cancer. Sources told TMZ that she passed away on Tuesday at her home in Missouri.

Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, was reportedly not present when she died. The rapper has not publicly commented on her passing.

Betty’s death follows another loss in the family. As per People, Eminem’s mother, Debbie Nelson, died in December 2024 after battling advanced lung cancer.

Mathers and his mother had a complicated and widely discussed relationship that stretched back to the early years of his career. The tension even led to legal action after Eminem referenced her in the song “My Name Is” on the 1999 album “The Slim Shady LP.”

In later years, reports suggested the two had taken steps to mend their relationship.

As tributes continue to pour in for Lord Sear, the rapper is navigating a moment shaped by both personal grief and the loss of a close collaborator who played a meaningful role in his career.
