Beloved Nick Jonas Suffers Deep, Devastating Loss: ‘My Sister Forever’

Beloved Nick Jonas is mourning the loss of someone who had long been part of his family’s life. Maya Kibbel, a childhood friend of the Jonas Brothers who was often around the band during their early years, has died at age 30. Her mother, Kiyoko Kibbel, shared the heartbreaking news in a message posted on Instagram on March 7.

Kibbel had been battling Wilson’s disease, a rare genetic condition that prevents the body from properly removing excess copper. In her post, Kiyoko said Maya suddenly collapsed and was rushed to a hospital, where she later died in the emergency room.

Maya Kibbel’s Mother Shares Emotional Tribute

Kiyoko Kibbel said her daughter lived with years of pain as she battled the rare illness. In a heartfelt message shared online, she reflected on the difficult journey Maya faced before her death.

“It is with great sorrow that I have to post this sad news. Maya had been suffering from a rare disease called Wilson’s disease. She fought hard, but her body gave out. Early on 3/7, she collapsed, and her heart and lungs stopped working. It was too late, and she passed away in the ER,” she posted.

Kiyoko also wrote about the toll the illness had taken on Maya during her final years.

“She had suffered so much that often she would cry herself to sleep due to her pain. But now she has entered into Heaven,n where she can be with her daddy with no more pain or tears. Those of you who knew her and can’t believe she is gone, please know she is in the best place ever! I know she is watching over all of you from up above. Thank you to all those who loved and cared for her while she was still here. As her mom of 30 years, I miss her terribly and am heartbroken. My comfort is knowing she is no longer suffering. Love and prayers to you all!

What Is Wilson’s Disease?

As per the Cleveland Clinic, Wilson’s disease is a rare inherited disorder that affects how the body processes copper. According to the National Institutes of Health, the condition prevents the body from removing excess copper, causing the metal to build up in vital organs.

Over time, the buildup can damage the liver, brain, eyes, and other parts of the body. Without proper treatment, the condition can lead to severe and sometimes life-threatening complications.

Many patients live with the illness for years before receiving a diagnosis, as symptoms can vary and often develop gradually.

As his career grew beyond the Jonas Brothers, Nick Jonas also built a strong presence on television. The singer first appeared on NBC’s “The Voice” in Season 8, serving as a Battle Advisor for Christina Aguilera.

While he helped guide contestants during the competition, the season’s winner did not come from Team Christina.

Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas, and other family members have not publicly commented on Maya’s tragic passing.
