George Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney (nee Alamuddin) were famously married in 2014 in a star-studded affair.
Now, the couple’s wedding DJ has offered up new details on the wedding, including the “ER” actor’s favorite song.
Wedding DJ Describes Clooney As “A Very Normal Guy”
GettyDJ Sam Young provided the tunes for the couple’s nupitals, and described the actor as a “down-to-earth” man, reported Hello! Magazine.
The DJ has experienced his fair share of stardom – his father, photographer Richard Young, captured photos of celebrities such as Princess Diana and Freddie Mercury.
“I spoke to him very briefly that weekend, and the first thing he actually said to me was that he used to be a DJ before he was an actor,” Young revealed.
“He comes up to me on the first night, and I’d just done the obvious mix of like good times, and then I mixed in Sugar Hill Gang’s ‘Rapper’s Delight.'”
“So he comes up to me, and he’s like, ‘Oh, I used to do that mix when I was younger. I used to be a DJ before I made it with acting in ‘ER’,” shared the DJ.
“And I was just like, ‘Oh, cool’, and then we had a little chit chat. ‘Rapper’s Delight’ is George’s all-time favourite song.”
Young praised the “normal guy.”
“George obviously just had a great time. He’s a very normal guy when you’re with him, there’s no airs and graces, like, ‘Oh I’m this big Hollywood guy’. You can chat to him about pretty much anything,” he said.
It might have been their shared passion for “Rapper’s Delight” that led him to another DJ set for the couple a few years later.
“A couple of years after that, I did a Christmas party for him, and that was probably a bit more personal than the wedding, and a lot smaller. He’s just a really nice guy, very friendly and down to earth!”
Clooney Previously Revealed List Of Favorite Songs – With One Cheeky Choice
GettyIn 2003, Clooney appeared on the popular BBC radio show “Desert Island Discs,” where he named his top six songs – and one he can’t stand, FarOut Magazine reported.
“Desert Island Discs” asks guests to choose the songs they’d take with them if they were stranded on a desert island.
In a typically cerebral move, his first choice was “I’m So Lonely I Could Cry,” by Hank Williams.
“Well, I thought, if I’m gonna be on a desert island, I should have Hank Williams’ ‘I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry’ just so I could feel sorry for myself,” he said.
His choice of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2” was equally well considered.
“You know, you can’t go wrong with Pink Floyd, and why not have a bunch of people singing so you feel as if you’re not alone on the island,” he reasoned.
And for his controversial choice to get him off the island?
“What I figure is you need a reason to get off the island, and if you play William Shatner singing [The Beatles’] ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,’ then you will hollow out your own leg and make a canoe out of it to get off of this island,” he joked.
As for his other songs, he chose “Destination Moon” by Dinah Washington, “Nice ‘n’ Easy” by Frank Sinatra, “Artificial Flowers” by Bobby Darin, “Who Is He (And What Is He To You?)” by Bill Withers, and “Moondance” by Van Morrison.
