Jessica Simpson Puts ‘Family First’ – Spends Thanksgiving With Ex-Husband

Jessica Simpson and her ex-husband, Eric Johnson, came together for Thanksgiving.

On Friday, the singer was spotted at LAX, where she was asked about how she spent the holiday amid her split from Johnson.

In the clip shared by TMZ, Simpson revealed that their separation didn’t dampen the holiday at all, noting that she and Johnson actually spent Thanksgiving together.

The “Take My Breath Away” singer shared that Johnson joined her and the rest of the family at her mother Tina’s house.

“It’s my kids’ father,” Simpson told the photog. “And all their grandparents [were there], they have a lot of ‘em. Family first.”

Simpson also revealed that her mom did most of the cooking on Thanksgiving, while she and her sister, Ashlee, enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys.

The singer added that her kids—Maxwell, Ace Knute, and Birdie Mae—watched the Yale vs. Harvard football game in New Haven, Conn., on Nov. 22 with Johnson, who played at Yale before going pro.

“They had fun doing that. It’s where their dad played,” Simpson told the interviewer. “And they saw a huge billboard that was promoting [my] show, so they were like, ‘Mom!!!’ [They] sent me pictures.”

Jessica Simpson Gives Advice on Celebrating Holidays Post-Split

In the same video shared by TMZ, Simpson shared some advice to those who are going through a breakup or divorce during the holiday season. The singer reiterated that “unconditional love’s important.”

“No matter what, your kid is half the other person, and [you should] always have respect in what you say around them so they can always have a good perspective on it,” Simpson added.

In January, Simpson and Johnson announced their separation after nearly a decade of marriage.

“Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” Simpson told PEOPLE. “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”

The former lovers first met through a mutual friend in 2010. They got engaged after six months of dating, and eventually tied the knot in July 2014.

Simpson and Johnson share three children: daughters Maxwell “Maxi” Drew, 12, and Birdie Mae, 5, and son Ace Knute, 11.
