Kid Cudi Got Emotional Over the Sweetest Text From His Daughter

Actor and musician Kid Cudi is opening up about his close relationship with his 15-year-old daughter, Vada. Cudi shared that Vada recently sent him a text message that meant the world to him. “She literally texted me the other day … and she was like, ‘You’re the best dad ever,'” he told People.

“It was just like … I remember the first time she said that to me, I was like, ‘Word.’ I was so weak. I almost cried,” Cudi, 41, continued, explaining that he was blown away by his daughter’s message. “I was like, ‘Yo, she said, I’m the best dad ever … Out of all the dads? Oh, man.”

The “Happy Gilmore 2” actor had nothing but praise for Vada, saying, “She’s my best friend, my homie, my ride or die. She’s all those things.”

What Kid Cudi Wish He’d Known About Fatherhood

Cudi recently tied the knot with designer Lola Abecassis Sartoremet, and welcomed Vada in 2010 when he was in a previous relationship. He didn’t see his daughter as frequently as he wanted and was concerned about raising her right. But now he realizes he had “nothing to worry about.”

“I always felt that our relationship wouldn’t be strong because I’m not with her 24/7,” he revealed, adding, “That was really the wrong way to think about things.”

Eventually he shifted his perspective and realized everything would be okay. “Of course, my daughter is going to want to have a relationship with me, and our relationship is going to be cool,” he said.

Cudi & Vada Have a Lot in Common

Cudi is not only “the best dad ever” to his daughter, the two actually have a lot of the same interests, including video games, movies, and a shared fashion sense.

“I remember when she was like 3 or 5, I got her a Nintendo 3DS with some Mario games,” the rapper explained. “And so I’ve been trying to implement these things, and she really is into the horror movies. She doesn’t get scared. She watches them even without me.”

But there has been a serious element to Cudi’s approach to raising his daughter as well. The “Trap” actor, who released his book “Cudi: The Memoir” on August 12, lost his own father at age 11.

He has also dealt with substance issues in the past, and credits Vada with helping him get his life together. “I needed to be a good example for her and be around for her,” Cudi revealed on “CBS Mornings.”
