Michael Jackson‘s daughter, Paris Jackson, gave her famous father a rare shout out on social media while promoting her new song, “Zombies In Love,” around March 19.
The conversation turned to Michael after Paris struggled through numerous takes to complete her announcement, “My name’s Paris Jackson, and my new single, ‘Zombies In Love,’ is out now on Spotify,” without laughing.
The 27-year-old paused to ask asked her cameraman, “Can you imagine my dad doing this?” She then added, “Have you seen that video where he’s like ‘I love to tour’?” referencing the “Black or White” singer’s hilarious 1995 interview moment that sent the crew giggling.
Paris rarely mentions her late father on social media, typically keeping her Instagram account largely career-focused. Her page has recently taken on a hazy, muted aesthetic as she promotes her new music. For the video announcing her song, she wore baggy low rise jeans, a crop top, and a cardigan that matched her usual grunge-influenced boho style.
“With my personal style, I go for comfort most of the time, so I like a lot of soft clothing. Typically I stick with earth tones and browns and it’s a cross between Janis Joplin meets Kurt Cobain,” the songstress told Fashionista in 2024.
Fans Gleefully Reacted to Paris Jackson’s MJ Shout Out
Judging by the comments Paris’ video received, fans were thrilled by the Michael Jackson reference. One wrote, “You got me with the ‘I love to tour’ I will never forget that lol.”
“Twilight” star Taylor Lautner hopped into the comments to say, “Thank you for this. That’s all.”
Someone else wrote “LMAO” before adding that they were planning to support Paris by streaming the song.
Paris Jackson Says New Song Is About ‘Love of My Life’
Paris did not name the person she had in mind while writing “Zombies in Love,” but she did drop a major hint. In the caption of a clip she posted giving fans a taste of the music before the release date, she wrote that the song is about “being strung out back in the day with the love of my life.”
Paris previously shared that she quit drugs and became sober in January 2020, meaning the person she’s calling “the love of my life” is most likely not her former fiancé Justin Long, because the pair didn’t appear to start dating until 2022.
It’s more likely that Paris is referencing her former bandmate Gabriel Glenn, with whom she formed the indie folk group The Soundflowers and shared a relationship from around 2018 to 2020. In a 2021 Red Table Talk interview, she called their split her “deepest heartbreak.”
The new song by Paris contains mournful lyrics such as “So much pain and hate to fight through/
A hopeless cause in tune to sway to/Dreams of all the things we’d be/But the common goal is so deadly.”
