Grammy-Winning Music Producer Behind Beyoncé and Drake Hits Passes Away & Tributes Pour In

The music industry is in mourning over the sad news that producer Sidney “Omen” Brown has passed away. Not only did Brown work with the likes of Drake, Lil Wayne, and Beyoncé, but he also won a Grammy for his work on Ludacris’ 2007 album. Now, the internet is paying tribute to his legacy.

His mother, Martha Brown, confirmed the news to TMZ on September 16. It’s unclear when the Grammy winner passed away, but a family member discovered his body on September 13 in his apartment in Harlem. The family member went to Brown’s apartment after he failed to show up for a shift at Ethyl’s Bar & Restaurant, where it appears he worked as a DJ.

Brown’s Music Helped Shape a Generation

Producers play a crucial role in the music industry. Because of this, many fans of popular artists can identify a producer without needing to read the song credits. For many, this is the case for Brown thanks to his decades in the business.

One fan took to X and wrote of his legacy, “Sidney “Omen” Brown, the genius behind hits for Drake and Beyoncé, has died at 49. His sound shaped a generation—his legacy lives in every beat. #BREAKING #EntertainmentNews #RIP”

Someone else reported his passing on the platform. They wrote, “Sidney “Omen” Brown, the Grammy-winning producer behind hits for Drake and Beyoncé, was found dead at 49 in his Harlem apartment on September 13, leaving a shocked music community mourning a sudden and tragic loss.”

The bar and restaurant where he DJed also paid tribute to his legacy. They wrote on Instagram,
“Tonight! We learned of the passing of our longtime DJ, a Friend and Ethyl’s Family Member!

The post continued, “We are beyond heartbroken. Omen has been a major part of what made Ethyl’s beat from the very beginning! Sidney “Omen” Brown was not only a DJ who could get our Dance floor jumping, but he was also a Grammy Award-winning producer who worked with Beyonce, Lil’ Wayne and please take a minute to listen to the song attached, “Tell It Like It Is,” which Omen helped write and produce for Ludacris!”

He Leaves Behind a Massive Legacy

Brown began his work as a music producer and writer in 1999. His big break in the industry came in 2006 when he produced “Tell It Like It Is” for Ludacris’ “Release Therapy” album. The album won a Grammy the following year for Best Rap Album.

Some of the other songs he produced include Beyoncé’s “Mine” and Drake’s “Shit It Down.” He will be missed.
