Heartbroken ‘80s Band Reveals That ‘Serious Illness’ Will Result in Canceled Shows

Stray Cats is a group formed in 1979 by guitarist and singer Brian Setzer, double bassist Lee Rocker, and drummer Slim Jim Phantom. The band was popular in the ‘80s but continued to perform; however, on Saturday, October 25, they expressed their heartbreak and the reason for canceling shows, starting with their opening-night performance in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. The show is part of their Fall 2025 tour.

Stray Cats Cancel Show

In a statement posted on Instagram, the group said the cancellation was due to Setzer’s health. “I’m heartbroken to share, due to serious illness, I am unable to perform and very regrettably have to cancel tonight’s show at Soaring Eagle in Mt Pleasant, MI. I know this affects so many people and I am devastated to have to deliver this news,” the statement by Setzer reads.

Setzer continued, “I’ve been trying to do everything I can to go on and do with this show, but it is just not possible. I’ve been looking forward so much to being on stage with my band mates again and playing for all of our amazing fans, and I’m gutted.”

After Setzer’s statement, the rockabilly band informed fans that “Refunds will be available at points of purchase.”

Fans showed their support in the post’s comments, many sending well-wishes to Setzer and hoping for his speedy recovery. “Get well soon! And when you do, please come to the uk! We flew out to see you in Illinois tonight from Scotland but would love to see you on home soil!” a comment reads.

“Brian I’m praying for you my friend…. May you have a speedy recovery…. Your health is most important ….sending you love and prayers my brother,” another fan wrote.

Other reactions include, “We wait…we love you!!! Will always have your back!!,” “Sending so much love to you,” and “Mr Setzer, I have an autoimmune disease too and know the struggle. Please take care. Your health is more important than everything else. Love.”

Brian Setzer Gives Health Update

The band has several tour dates scheduled across the United States, starting on October 25, which was canceled, and ending on November 23. As fans hope for the best, this is not the first time Setzer has shared an update on his health.

The vocalist has previously discussed his struggles with an autoimmune disease. On March 19, he posted a photo of himself on Instagram. He looks happy and healthy. In the caption, he shared an update with his loyal fans.

“I just want to let you all know that I’m getting better day by day. The progress I’m making is excellent! My dream is to visit Japan, the States, and Europe with Stray Cats, and of course, one of my biggest thrills would be bringing back the BSO Christmas show tradition,” he wrote.

He continued, “Thank you all for your love and support—it truly means the world to me. I was deeply touched. I love you guys, and only we can truly understand what this sound means to us! Love, Brian.”

Unsurprisingly, fans showed their love for Setzer in the comments, wishing him good health.
