Amanda Seyfried opened up about one of her key rules for balancing life as a working mother. Speaking in an interview with Vogue, the actress revealed that she must be able to spend her weekend nights with her children.
‘My Only Rule’
Seyfried referred to her ability to call some shots on set as a “privilege I have at this point in my career.” She has been active in the industry since 1996, but her career launched on to the big screen in 2004 when she appeared as Karen in “Mean Girls” alongside other then-newcomers like Rachel McAdams.
Seyfried uses her power for the good of her family, explaining that she has “to sleep with my kids Friday night, Saturday, Sunday–I have to go to bed with them.”
The “The Housemaid” star clarified that this is her “only rule” and that “it does fuel me.” She admitted that “it probably helps [her children], but it definitely helps me.”
Seyfried is a mother to Nina, 8, and Thomas, 5, with whom she shares with husband and fellow actor Thomas Sadoski. Seyfried and Sadoski co-starred in the Off Broadway production of “The Way We Get By” together in 2015, later getting married in 2017.
A Big Year for Seyfried
The “Mean Girls” alum has had an exciting past few months, playing key parts in two major films. She took on the role of the matriarch Nina Winchester in “The Housemaid,” directed by Paul Feig and co-starring Sydney Sweeney as the titular housemaid. The movie, which is based on the novel by Freida McFadden, brought in an impressive $295 million at the worldwide box office.
Seyfried also starred as the eponymous character in “The Testament of Ann Lee.” The film, which is filled with singing and dancing numbers, centers on Ann Lee, the founding leader of the Shakers. The movie allows Seyfried to flex her acting and musical chops as seen in other her works such as “Les Misérables.”
For her turn as Ann, Seyfried received a Golden Globes nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture — Comedy or Musical and picked up a win at the Astra Awards in the same category. She accepted the Desert Palm Achievement Award for her “Ann Lee” performance at the Palm Springs International Film Awards. Seyfried also received several nominations for a variety of Best Actress awards among different regional critics circles, such as the Chicago Film Critics Association and the Denver Film Critics Society.
In 2025, the actress also starred in and produced the crime drama miniseries “Long Bright River.” The show follows Seyfried’s character, a patrol officer named Mickey, as she tries to find her missing sister.
