Ann-Margret, 85, Stuns As She Makes Rare Appearance to Accept USO Honor for Decades of Service

Ann-Margret made a rare and radiant public appearance this week, stepping out to receive a meaningful honor that reflects decades of dedication beyond Hollywood.

The 85-year-old icon attended a special ceremony at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills, where she was recognized by the United Service Organizations (USO) for her longstanding commitment to American service members.

The Icon Received the Special Honor

Dressed in a vibrant green outfit, Ann-Margret was presented with a commemorative USO Challenge Coin.

It was “in honor of her years of service to American service members,” according to a press release obtained by People

The recognition is especially notable, as she becomes only the second recipient of the honor—following legendary entertainer Bob Hope, whose work with the USO helped define its legacy.

“2026 marks the 85th birthdays for both Ann-Margret and the USO, united in their shared commitment to lift spirits, serve those who serve and bring a touch of home wherever duty calls,” the organization said in a statement.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the USO reflected on the milestone moment.

“Honoring a legend. In Los Angeles, the USO proudly honored legendary entertainer Ann-Margret with a commemorative USO Challenge Coin — revealed and presented by The Honorable Barbara Barrett of the USO Board of Governors,” the statement read. “In a milestone year marking the 85th birthdays of both Ann-Margret and the USO, we celebrated a shared legacy of lifting spirits and bringing a touch of home to those serving far from it. Ann-Margret’s impact is both profound and lasting.”

The tribute also included remarks from key figures connected to the organization, including Linda Hope, daughter of Bob Hope, and USO CEO Mike Linnington, making the event a meaningful celebration of both history and service.

Ann-Margret Toured Numerous Times

Ann-Margret’s connection to the military community spans decades.

Over the course of her career, she toured with the USO three times, including two trips to Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, where she performed for American troops stationed overseas.

Reflecting on those experiences, she previously shared with a Deadline reporter, “I have always had such a great time doing these tours, and then to see my guys since then come up to me and say I saw you in Vietnam and Da Nang and then to say ‘well I liked you in ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ and ‘Viva Las Vegas.’”

She added with a laugh, “I am exhausted just hearing about those movies. Of course I was younger then but still feel the excitement.”

Following the ceremony, Ann-Margret participated in a conversation about her career and her deep ties to the military community, further highlighting the personal significance of the honor.

Ann-Margret Previously Sustained an Injury

The appearance comes shortly after the actress revealed she is recovering from a recent injury.

Speaking to Parade earlier this month, she shared, “I fell the other day and so now my right elbow is broken.”

Despite the setback, she maintained her signature positivity. “That’s okay … I have fallen so many times. I don’t intend to, but I do! What can I say?” she said, adding when asked about her recovery, “Yes, I am. I sure am!”

Even while healing, Ann-Margret continues to embody resilience, grace, and gratitude—qualities that have defined both her career and her enduring connection to those she has supported for decades.
