Bobby Cannavale is a brilliant actor, but he is also a father to three children. Jake Cannavale Reveals What It’s Really Like Working with His Dad

Bobby and Jake are working together again on the Prime Video crime thriller, “Scarpetta,” and the experience has been incredible for the actors, with Jake telling People in an interview on March 7 that it has strengthened their bond.

Fans may remember that the pair have worked together before; their first time was on the television show “Nurse Jackie.” Jake played the role of Charlie Cruz, his dad’s onscreen son. “The preparation was, honestly, it was pretty cerebral,” Jake said of his work on “Scarpetta.” “We worked together 15 years ago playing father and son, and all of our scenes were together, but this time we don’t have any scenes together.”

He continued, “It would get really deep and cathartic and philosophical, and sometimes we’d just be laughing our (expletives) off like we were at a bar or something. So, you know, we got a whole spectrum of collaboration, which is really awesome to see my dad in that light.”

Not all children get the opportunity to work with their parents, and those who do don’t necessarily have a great experience. But for Bobby and Jake, what they have is special. “There’s this very sort of, dare I say, mature understanding that happens as the son of anybody when you realize what your parent does to feel this sense of purpose,” Jake shared.

Reflecting on his acting debut and working with his father, Jake told People in a 2024 interview that it was a wonderful experience on the set of “Nurse Jackie.” “I was getting paid to ditch two days of school a week and go act cool,” he said. “It was easy, and everyone was cool. There was no actor on that set whose head was up their own (expletive). Everyone was just dope.”

He continued, “Edie Falco’s an absolute hero. I couldn’t have asked for a better actor to make my debut with. Zero complaints, it was awesome.”

Jake also praised his father for helping him and giving him advice when he asks for it. “Every now and then, I’ll ask him [Bobby] — if I see some similarities between something I’m doing and something my dad’s done character-wise or what have you — I’ll be like, ‘Hey, this kind of reminds me of when you did this, gimme me some advice,'” he shared.
