O’Hara’s last on-screen appearance was in the documentary “John Candy: I Like Me,” People reports. The documentary focused on the late Candy, who was O’Hara’s longtime friend and colleague. The documentary aired on Prime Video in October 2025. O’Hara and Candy had known each other since the ‘70s, having met at Second City, a Toronto-based comedy troupe.

O’Hara’s death was confirmed by her rep, who revealed she passed away at her Los Angeles Bentwood home “following a brief illness,” TMZ reports. She was 71. The “Home Alone” star’s recent television appearances included “The Studio” and “The Last of Us,” both of which last aired in May 2025. It is unclear what will happen in these shows, specifically on “The Studio,” which was scheduled to film Season 2.

‘The Studio’ Season 2 Begins Filming

The Apple TV+ show “The Studio” was set to film Season 2. On January 11, 2026, Seth Rogen, who stars in the show, revealed that they had intended to start filming the next week. “We’ve literally written some things that happened leading up to this award show into episodes as we’ve been writing the show. We start shooting in a week,” he told Variety. “So yes, several things have happened, both today and leading up to this event that we have written directly into the show, and you’ll probably know what they are when you see them.”

“The Studio” has attracted a lot of attention, including Golden Globe nominations, and in addition to O’Hara and Rogen, it also starred Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonders. Rogen is also one of the producers. “A lot of people literally just come up to us and were like, ‘Put me on your show. I’ll do anything. I’ll walk by!’” Rogen said. “It’s very lovely. The head of Sony, Tom [Rothman]. I love that real studio heads want to be on the show.”

Rogen paid tribute to his co-star after news of her death broke. He penned a loving message on Instagram. “Really don’t know what to say… I told O’Hara when I first met her I thought she was the funniest person I’d ever had the pleasure of watching on screen,” he wrote. “Home Alone was the movie that made me want to make movies. Getting to work with her was a true honour. She was hysterical, kind, intuitive, generous… she made me want to make our show good enough to be worthy of her presence in it. This is just devastating. We’re all lucky we got to live in a world with her in it.”
