Fellow Canadian Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds has posted a simple yet sincere and heartfelt tribute to Catherine O’Hara following her tragic passing at the age of 71.
The stars have come out in force to pay their respects and express their sadness at the loss of O’Hara, who was clearly popular and beloved amongst her peers. Other particularly notable tributes have come from the likes of Macaulay Culkin, Eugene Levy, and Tim Burton.
Reynolds, 49, took to his Instagram account to share his tribute to the legendary actress with his 50.6 million followers.
Ryan Reynolds Described Catherine O’Hara as ‘Bright and Beautiful’
Ryan Reynolds posted a 28-second video compilation of Catherine O’Hara’s performances, with Cynthia Erivo’s cover of Paul Young’s 1985 hit “Everytime You Go Away” playing over it. The clips in the video included some from iconic movies like “Home Alone” and “Beetlejuice.”
“National Lampoon’s Van Wilder” and “Deadpool” star “Reynolds captioned the video with a short tribute. It read, “What a bright and beautiful light. Catherine O’Hara. 🍁”
Although Reynolds and O’Hara never acted in a movie or television series together, they did both appear in Colin Hanks’ 2025 documentary “John Candy: I Like Me.” In it, along with a plethora of other stars — including Dan Aykroyd, Steve Martin, Bill Murray, and Chris Columbus — they paid tribute to the late, great Canadian comedian and actor, who passed away in 1994 at the age of 43.
Although Reynolds never appeared alongside Candy on screen, O’Hara did — perhaps most notably for 10 years on the groundbreaking Canadian sketch comedy series “Second City Television” and in 1990’s “Home Alone,” when Candy’s polka playing Gus Polinski gave O’Hara’s Kate McCallister a ride home to reunite with her son.
