Arizona Sheriff Chris Nanos Responds To Claims He Withheld Key Evidence From FBI

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos is responding to a recent report that he withheld key evidence from the FBI as the search for Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy Guthrie, continues.

“Not even close to the truth,” Nanos told NBC Tucson affiliate KVOA on Thursday.

Chris Nanos Speaks Out Regarding Reports Of Sending Evidence To A Private Lab

In the initial report about the rift, Fox News reporter Michael Ruiz detailed how Sheriff Nanos sent a glove recovered from INSIDE the home to a private lab in Florida rather than the FBI’s lab in Virginia, according to the source.”

However, when speaking with NBC Tucson affiliate KVOA, Nanos responded to this claim directly.

“Actually, the FBI just wanted to send the one or two they found by the crime scene, closest to it — mile, mile and a half … I said ‘No, why do that? Let’s just send them all to where all the DNA exist, all the profiles and the markers exist.’ They agreed, makes sense,” Nanos told the outlet.

Specifically, the evidence included a pair of black gloves that has been sent out to see if there is any DNA. However, Nanos mentioned that it might not even have anything to do with the case.

“We don’t even know the true value of these gloves,” he said adding that there were “quite a number of them.”

FBI Raises Reward To $100,000

The FBI announced on Thursday, Feb, 12 that they have drastically increased the reward for any information that leads to “the location of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.” The FBI further added that they have received over 13,000.

“Every tip is reviewed for credibility, relevance, and information that can be acted upon by law enforcement,” the post read. “Threat Intake Examiners at the National Threat Operations Center (NTOC) and FBI personnel are supporting a 24-hour command post in which dozens of agents and investigators are assigned leads and tips to action each shift.”

And with that, they have released a description of the suspect who is “described as a male, approximately 5’9” – 5’10” tall, with an average build. In the video, he is wearing a black, 25-liter ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack.”

The FBI previously offered a reward of 50,000 for information about Nancy’s disappearance from her Tucson, Arizona, home in Catalina Foothills, but the search is now on day 13, prompting this change.
