Nancy Guthrie Update: Sheriff Chris Nanos Makes Announcement With Urgent Warning

Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance has left communities around the world feeling helpless as they search to locate the 84-year-old mom, grandmother and friend.

As she remains missing after more than 50 days, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos made an urgent announcement to those who have come across GoFundMe fundraisers for Nancy’s investigation, warning that they are a scam.

Sheriff Chris Nanos Makes Urgent Announcement

“Please be advised there is no official GoFundMe or any fundraising effort associated with the Guthrie investigation,” Sheriff Nanos’ statement said, which was shared on the Pima County Police Department’s X page on Tuesday, March 23.

“Billboard displays are funded through official channels. Any claims suggesting otherwise are fraudulent and will be investigated accordingly,” the statement continued. “The public is urged to remain vigilant and not send money to anyone claiming to raise funds related to this case. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or 88-CRIME.”

Nancy has been missing since February 1 after she was presumed to have been taken from her Catalina Foothills home in Tucson, Arizona. Just hours before she went missing, Nancy spent the evening at her daughter Annie Guthrie’s home with her and her son-in-law Tommaso Cioni

Nancy’s loved ones grew concerned after she didn’t attend her weekly church service that Sunday morning, leading to a missing persons report.

Although the investigation team was able to find DNA from inside of Nancy’s home that did not belong to her, the DNA has not been successfully matched to a potential suspect.

Video footage from Nancy’s doorbell camera on the evening she was abducted shows a male as he attempts to break into her home. His mask and dark attire have made it difficult for facial recognition technology to narrow down its search, leading to no suspect arrests in the case.

Despite the little evidence that the FBI has been able to confirm, even after septic tank searches, impounded vehicles, finding black gloves around Nancy’s property and additional surveillance footage from her neighbor’s home camera, Nancy’s family refuses to give up hope that she will be found.

Nancy Guthrie’s Family Continues Their Search After 50+ Days Missing

In a statement from the Guthrie family, shared on the News 4 Tucson special segment on March 22, Savannah Guthrie, her brother, Camron Guthrie, and their sister, Annie, as well as their spouses, said they won’t be able to properly grieve until their mom is located and brought back home so they may celebrate her life.

The family asked that anyone in or around the Tucson area look back into their digital memories from that day to double-check that nothing linked to the case stands out. They also thanked the Tucson community for being so devotedly supportive during the search for Nancy.

“We cannot grieve; we can only ache and wonder. Our focus is solely on finding her and bringing her home,” the statement said. “We want to celebrate her beautiful and courageous life, but we cannot do that until she is brought to a final place of rest.

“It’s possible a member of this community has information that they do not even realize is significant,” the statement continued. “We hope people search their memories, especially around the key timelines of January 31 and the early morning hours of February 1, as well as the late evening of January 11.”

Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.
