The “Game of Thrones” universe is vast, and there’s no doubt that fans want to see various stories come to life. One of those is how the Targaryen rule started, bringing the seven individual kingdoms of Westeros together. In the first feature movie, “Aegon’s Conquest” is set to tell that tale.
As Warner Bros. shared plans with stakeholders for 2027 in a quarterly letter, there were some mentions of plans beyond next year. It turns out that the beginning of the Targaryen dynasty is among those plans.
‘Ageon’s Conquest’ Is Coming After 2027
GettyIn the letter, Warner Bros. started with a slate that would arrive in 2027, which included James Gunn’s “Man of Tomorrow” and a follow-up “Minecraft Movie” release. However, at the end of the paragraph came a sneaky look at “beyond 2027,” and that’s where the “Game of Thrones” movie is listed, along with the confirmed “Jetsons” movie.
There isn’t a clear timeline as to when the theatrical event film could be released. With the time it takes to film and then fully produce the fantasy universe, 2028 is plausible. It’s unlikely that Warner Bros. will want to plan too much further than that, but 2029 at the latest is likely.
There are still some “Game of Thrones” stories to come throughout 2027 and 2028. “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” Season 2 is slated for a 2027 release, and “House of the Dragon” Season 4, which will be the final season of the civil war prequel series, is slated to arrive in the summer of 2028. It could make sense to have the movie arrive somewhere in the middle of the two shows, maybe at the start of 2028. If not, just after the end of The Dance of the Dragons will work.
What Is ‘Ageon’s Conquest’ About?
Getty“Aegon’s Conquest” is set 300 years before the Starks headed to King’s Landing from Winterfell, only to end up scattered, killed, and broken. It will focus on the time Aegon I, known as Aegon the Conqueror, flew across from the east to find a new kingdom to rule. He and his sisters, who were also his wives, took control of Westeros and combined the seven kingdoms into one.
It will mean the return of Vhagar, who is currently seen on “House of the Dragon.” She was Visenya’s dragon, the elder of Aegon’s two sisters. Fans will get to meet Balerion for the first time, who has been mentioned multiple times on “House of the Dragon” and “Game of Thrones.” This was the dragon Aegon rode from Dragonstone, and he ended up becoming Viserys’ dragon. However, Viserys only rode Balerion once before deciding that it wasn’t for him, and the battle-hardened dragon died of natural causes at the age of 200.
The other sister fans will meet is Rhaenys, who rode Meraxes. The favorite of Aegon’s sisters, Rhaenys suffered defeat as she tried to take Dorne with her dragon, Meraxes. It was a tough blow, and it’s sure to be a major part of “Aegon’s Conquest.”
As of right now, only Bo Willimon is attached to the project as writer. No other details have been confirmed, but the quarterly letter makes it clear that plans to produce it are still underway and the “Game of Thrones” franchise isn’t coming to an end any time soon.
