Nancy was last seen more than a week ago after being dropped off at her Tucson home by her daughter and son-in-law. She was reported missing the following day after she did not arrive as expected.

Attention has also shifted to ransom notes linked to the case, with law enforcement experts pointing to one detail that may suggest the sender is not based in the United States.

The note reportedly specified that a multimillion-dollar ransom be paid in U.S. dollars, language that immediately raised questions among investigators. Former FBI agent Michael Harrigan told the New York Post that the wording stood out as unusual.

“Why would you use that if you’re a domestic person? That points to somebody who might be potentially outside the country, which also lends the potential for this being a scam,” Harrigan said.

“If you’re domestic, why would you ever put ‘USD?’ You put six million,” he added.

NBC reported that, as per investigators, the sender of the ransom note has not contacted law enforcement or the Guthrie family since the message was first sent to news outlets last week. Authorities have not confirmed whether the notes are authentic.

Police have said the demands included two deadlines, with the amount increasing after the first deadline passed.

Despite the mounting pressure, officials continue to state that no suspects, persons of interest, or vehicles have been identified in the case.

“Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie and her family have spent the past week pleading publicly for the safe return of Nancy Guthrie, releasing three emotional video appeals directed at those believed to be holding her.

Each message has reflected the growing urgency of a family searching for answers. Now, as the investigation enters its eighth day, the reported ransom demand has added a deeply troubling new layer to a case that has drawn national attention and intensified concern.

This is a developing story.
