Cillian Murphy’s Lookalike Son Lands Role in Major Star-Studded Series

Aran Murphy, son of Cillian Murphy, is stepping into the spotlight with a role in “War,” the upcoming Sky and HBO legal drama. The series follows two powerful rival law firms in London and comes from George Kay, the creator of “Hijack.” Sky initially developed the project before HBO came on board, according to Deadline. Dominic West of “The Crown” and Sienna Miller of “Layer Cake” lead the ensemble cast.

Rising Talent With Expanding Credits

Aran’s growing résumé already includes the 2022 sci-fi film “Lola.” He is also set to appear in the upcoming adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel “Klara and the Sun,” expected in 2026.

Aran is one of two sons shared by Cillian Murphy and artist Yvonne McGuinness.

Inside the Plot of ‘War’

As per Deadline, “War” follows two esteemed London firms, Cathcarts and Taylor and Byrne, as they face off in what is described as the divorce case of the century. Both sides are confident they will win, but the legal battle becomes far more tangled as it progresses. The series will be structured as an anthology, with new legal cases each season.

The cast also includes Celia Imrie of “The Thursday Murder Club,” Nick Mohammed of “Ted Lasso,” Miles Jupp, Steve Furst, Akiya Henry, Camille Coduri, and Mark Quartley. Additional roles will be played by Shaheen Jafargholi, Rose Williams, Honor Swinton Byrne, Kartanya Maynard, Alexandra Mardell, Phoebe Fox, James McArdle, Nina Sosanya, Pip Torrens, and Archie Renaux.

George Kay serves as showrunner, with Ben Taylor of “Catastrophe” directing.

Murphy’s Family Life & Supportive Roots

Although widely known for roles in “Oppenheimer,” “Peaky Blinders,” and “Dunkirk,” Cillian Murphy has long prioritized privacy and family life. “I don’t need to live in Los Angeles,” Murphy told People magazine in 2005. “I’d be tremendously far away from my family.”

He has spoken often about balancing acting and fatherhood, crediting his wife for supporting that balance. “I have an amazing wife, and I couldn’t do this without her and her understanding,” Murphy told GQ in 2019.

Aran grew up largely out of the public eye but gravitated toward performing early. At 11, he starred in a world tour of the play “Hamnet,” performing in London, New York, Boston, and Hong Kong. Murphy said his son handled the spotlight with ease.

“He would come off stage and ask what the score was in the Liverpool game,” he told The Guardian in 2021.

Aran later made his film debut in “Lola”. It secured his breakout when Deadline confirmed he would star in Taika Waititi’s upcoming adaptation of “Klara and the Sun” alongside Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams.

“War” marks another major step as Aran builds a screen career of his own.
