CNN anchor Jessica Dean has her own breaking news. On March 14, 2026, a rep for Dean confirmed to People that she and her husband of two years, Alex Katz, are expecting their first child — a baby boy.
The host of “CNN Weekend Newsroom with Jessica Dean” is due in June, telling People of her baby boy, “I solo anchor 3 straight hours, sometimes more, every Saturday and Sunday and from his earliest days, this baby has been right there with me for some of the biggest breaking news of the last six months — sometimes 4 plus hours of rolling coverage.”
CNN’s Jessica Dean Says Her Baby Boy Seems to Love Breaking News
GettyBased in New York City, Dean is known for her political reporting, having previously “served as a CNN congressional correspondent on Capitol Hill,” reporting from the road with former President Joe Biden for two years, and serving as a “substitute anchor” on many of the network’s weekday shows, per CNN.
Dean told People that being pregnant as a breaking news anchor has been an “interesting experience,” explaining, “We catch a tremendous amount of news on the weekends, and he seems to like it as much as I do. I feel him kicking and rolling from the opening show music and throughout the interviews.”
She also noted that navigating her on-air wardrobe has been tricky, telling People, “Anyone who’s been pregnant knows the question of ‘what am I going to wear’ becomes a bit more complicated, especially during that in-between phase when you don’t look fully pregnant but also don’t look like your normal self.”
“Thankfully, drawstring and elastic waistband pants are very in right now,” she quipped.
Jessica Dean Says Being an Older Mom May Be Best for Her
Dean announced her pregnancy news on-air on March 13, as seen in the video above, and admitted, “The one thing I keep thinking about is that maybe the time on the campaign trail will prepare me for the sleep deprivation.”
Even after marrying Katz in 2024, Dean told People she wasn’t sure she’d ever become a mom, but that the timing now feels perfect for her.
“I came to this later in life, at the age of 41, which, while it sounds cliché, feels right on time for me,” she said. “Before Alex and I started dating, I had made peace with the idea [that] children may not be in the cards for me.”
“When Alex and I got married in June 2024, my heart was so full,” she continued. “It was truly content. To be able to build a family together is a dream I think I’d quietly let go of years ago that is now coming true. It’s the sweetest cherry on top.”
