The Emmy Effect: These Shows Are Getting Love Thanks to Emmy Buzz

The 2025 Emmy Awards are just a day away, but even though the winners haven’t been announced yet, plenty of shows are already benefitting from Emmy buzz.

According to Roku, Emmy nominations have given a number of shows a huge boost on streaming as fans check them out to see what all the fuss is about.

Roku says in the week following the announcement of nominations, viewing for those shows spiked across all genres.

And while that doesn’t necessarily translate into any of these shows being a shoe-in to take home a golden statue, it does mean they’re winners even before anyone sets foot on the red carpet.


‘Adolescence’ Sees the Biggest Pre-Emmy Boost

Netflix series “Adolescence” has benefitted the most from Emmy buzz according to Roku.

The show about a child’s alleged crime and the fallout saw a whopping 151% jump in streaming after nominations dropped.

The Studio” saw streaming go up by 111%. The show, starring Seth Rogen as the head of a fictional movie studio, is on Apple TV. “The Studio” has 23 Emmy nominations.

And “Severance,” also on Apple TV, saw viewership rise by 103%. The show created by Ben Stiller is about a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between work and home lives. It boasts an incredible 27 Emmy nominations.


Roku’s Streamer’s Choice May Give Insight Into Emmy Outcome

Roku also revealed its “Streamer’s Choice” list.

That list reflects the most-searched nominated shows on its platform by genre.

Only Murderers In the Building” takes the top spot in the comedy category. The Hulu series starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as super sleuths Charles, Oliver and Mabel.

That’s followed by “The Bear,” “Abbott Elementary,” “Hacks,” “Shrinking” and “What We Do In the Shadows.”


‘The White Lotus’ Rises in the Drama Category

HBO Max series “The White Lotus” rises to the top in Roku’s drama category. The show follows the exploits of guests and staff at a luxury resort. It has 23 Emmy nominations.

“The White Lotus” is followed by “The Last of Us,” “Paradise” and “The Pitt.”


‘The Penguin’ Scores Streamers in the Limited Series Category

Another HBO Max show, “The Penguin,” takes the top spot for Roku’s Streamer’s Choice Award for a Limited Series.

The show, starring an unrecognizable Colin Ferrell in the title role, focuses on the Gotham super-villian’s rise to power.

It’s followed by “The Black Mirror” and “Adolescence” on Roku’s llist.


How to Watch the 2025 Emmy Awards

This year’s Emmy Awards are hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze. Read about his hilarious plan to keep the ceremony on time here.

The ceremony promises a number of special moments, including the traditional “In Memoriam” segment backed by Vince Gill and Lainey Wilson singing “Go Rest High On That Mountain.”

There will also be a tribute to the 25th anniversary of “The Gilmore Girls” featuring show stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel.

Other notable moments include a 50th season tribute to “Survivor” featuring host Jeff Probst.

Reba McEntire and Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman are also slated to perform the theme song to “Golden Girls” to honor the sitcom’s 40th anniversary.

The 2025 Emmy Awards airs on Sunday, September 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET on CBS and live streaming on Paramount+.
