Lainey Wilson & Vince Gill Bring Country to Emmys With Emotional Tribute

The Emmys are going country! ACM Entertainer of the Year Lainey Wilson will join forces with country legend Vince Gill for what promises to be one of the most moving moments of Sunday night’s ceremony.

The pair are set to perform live on the 77th Prime Time Emmys Sunday night, September 14.

Lainey and Vince will take on Vince’s iconic song, “Go Rest High On That Mountain” as the music bed for the Emmy Awards’ annual “In Memoriam” segment.

The segment traditionally remembers those the entertainment community has lost over the past year.

Gill wrote the moving ballad in the 1990’s after the death of his brother, and performed an emotional rendition of the song at the funeral of country legend George Jones.


2025 ‘In Memoriam’ Expected to Honor Long List of Notables

This year’s “In Memoriam” is expected to honor a long list of famous faces lost this past year.

Those include prominent television figures like Maggie Smith, Loretta Swit, Malcolm Jamal-Warner, and George Wendt. 

The segment will likely also honor John Amos, Loni Anderson, Richard Chamberlain, Linda Lavin, and David Lynch.

Other notables who passed this year include Val Kilmer, Gene Hackman, Anne Burrell, Wink Martindale, George Foreman, Ruth Buzzi, Lulu Roman, Phil Robertson, Julian McMahon, Hulk Hogan, Ozzy Osborne, Danielle Spencer and most recently, Polly Holliday.


Lainey Wilson Posts Video of Rehearsals With Vince Gill

In an Instagram post, Lainey Wilson shared pictures and video of herself rehearsing with Vince Gill in prepartion for Sunday night’s performance.

In the post she wrote, “So looking forward to performing “Go Rest High On That Mountain” with @vincegillofficial for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards this Sunday at 8/7 ct. 🕊️”

Fans were already getting emotional just anticipating the moving performance. One wrote, “although I’ll be in tears, I can’t wait to hear your voice sing this! 🥺💕”

Another commented, “What a time for this song 👏👏”

And another wrote, “Already have goosebumps knowing how good this is going to sound”


Gill-Wilson Performance Just One of Special Moments for Emmys

In addition to Vince Gill and Lainey Wilson’s performance, Sunday night’s Emmys promise a number of other nostalgic tributes.

Those include a tribute to the 25th anniversary of “The Gilmore Girls” featuring show stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel.

You can also expect a 50th season tribute to “Survivor” featuring host Jeff Probst.

Reba McEntire and Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman are slated to perform the theme song to “Golden Girls” to honor the sitcom’s 40th anniversary.

“Law & Order’s” 35th Anniversary and “Grey’s Anatomy’s” 20th Anniversaries will also be celebrated by members of each cast.

This year’s Emmy’s will be hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze. You can watch them live Sunday, September 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET on CBS and live streaming on Paramount+.
