Eric Dane was working on a memorable final project before his tragic passing at age 52.
Now, just two weeks after he lost his battle with ALS, Penguin Random House announced Dane’s memoir, “My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments”, will be published posthumously by Maria Shriver’s imprint, The Open Field, on November 3, 2026.
Eric Dane Penned a Memoir Before His Death
In December 2025, the “Grey’s Anatomy” alum announced that he had been working on a memoir throughout his battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
The personal work will reflect on the most special moments from Dane’s life that “have meant the most, including when his daughters [Billie Beatrice and Georgia Geraldine] were born, his first day on set on Grey’s Anatomy, the moment he decided to get sober, the day he received his ALS diagnosis, and that hopeful day in the future when ALS is finally cured,” according to a press release obtained by People.
Shriver, 70, said she was “honored” to be publishing Dane’s story, calling it “a courageous one that inspires me deeply.”
“Eric wants to give his daughters and family something to be proud of, and this book will not only make them proud, but it will also help people understand what ALS is and isn’t, what happens to someone when they get it and how we can all be compassionate partners to people suffering with neurological conditions such as this,” she said at the time.
The “Euphoria” star said he hoped to “capture the moments that shaped me — the beautiful days, the hard ones, the ones I never took for granted — so that if nothing else, people who read it will remember what it means to live with heart.”
“I wake up every morning, and I’m immediately reminded that this is real — this illness, this challenge and that’s exactly why I’m writing this book,” he added in the press release. “If sharing this helps someone find meaning in their own days, then my story is worth telling.”
Eric Dane Passed Away at Age 52
Just 10 months after publicly announcing his diagnosis, the beloved actor died on February 19.
“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” his family shared via his official Instagram page on February 22. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, Rebecca, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”
The statement continued, “Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. As his illness progressed far more quickly than anyone could have imagined, Eric’s friends have come together to create a GoFundMe, linked in his bio, to support his girls and their future needs. Any contribution, no matter the size, will help provide stability during this incredibly difficult time and in the future for Eric’s wonderful daughters.”
