Hollywood families are celebrating a joyful new chapter: Eric Murphy, the son of legendary comedian Eddie Murphy, and Jasmin Lawrence, the daughter of fellow comedy icon Martin Lawrence, are expecting their first child together, the couple announced on social media this week.
The Two Recently Tied the Knot
The exciting news comes less than a year after the newlyweds quietly tied the knot in a private wedding, and fans are already congratulating the couple — and imagining a future filled with laughs, love and family traditions.
The couple revealed the pregnancy on Feb. 2 with a series of black-and-white photos posted on Instagram, including warm maternity portraits showing Jasmin’s baby bump and Eric’s affectionate gesture resting his head beside it.
Their caption simply read, “Thank you Jesus for the greatest gift,” accompanied by heart emojis — a heartfelt message that underscored both gratitude and excitement as they prepare to welcome their first child.
A Love Story Between Two Hollywood Families
Eric, 36, is the eldest son of Eddie Murphy and actress Paulette McNeely.
Raised primarily out of the Hollywood spotlight, he has pursued all kinds of creative endeavors, including voiceover work and projects connected to his father’s films, while building a life of his own.
Jasmin, 30, is the oldest daughter of Martin Lawrence and his ex-wife, Patricia Southall, and also keeps a relatively private profile.
The couple began dating in 2021 and announced their engagement in November 2024 after Eric’s romantic proposal in a candlelit, rose-filled setting.
“We’re engaged!! God truly blessed us with a love that feels like destiny. We couldn’t be more excited for the next chapter,” Jasmin wrote in an Instagram post.
Less than a year later, they exchanged vows in May 2025 in an intimate church ceremony where they invited no one.
Eddie Murphy discussed the wedding while appearing on the “Jennifer Hudson Show.”
“They went off, everybody was making the big wedding plans, and then they decided they wanted to do something quiet with just the two of them,” he said.
Prior to their wedding, Eddie Murphy mentioned how if they two had a baby, it would be destined to be funny, according to PEOPLE.
“They’re both beautiful,” Eddie said. “They look amazing together. And it’s funny [because] everybody [asks], ‘What is that baby going to be funny?’”
“Just our gene pool is going to make this funny baby,” he continued. “If they ever get married and have a child, I’m expecting the child to be funny.”
