FBI Makes Statement About Communication Between Guthrie Family & Nancy’s Abductor

After the final ransom deadline passed in the case of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, FBI Phoenix Spokesperson Connor Hagan released a statement to People about being unaware of any ongoing communication between the Guthrie family and the person who abducted their beloved mom.

“The FBI is not aware of any continued communication between the Guthrie family and suspected kidnappers,” Hagan said.

“For more than a week, FBI agents, analysts, and professional staff have worked around the clock to reunite Nancy Guthrie with her family,” he added. “Additional personnel from FBI field offices across the nation continue to deploy to Tucson. We are currently operating a 24-hour command post that includes crisis management experts, analytic support, and investigative teams. But we still need the public’s help.”

Savannah Guthrie Asks for Help

Just hours before the final ransom deadline on Monday, Feb. 9, at 5 PM MST, Savannah Guthrie shared a video to her Instagram, pleading with the public for help in finding her mom.

“We believe our mom is still out there,” Savannah said. “We need your help. Law enforcement is working tirelessly around the clock trying to bring her home, trying to find her. She was taken, and we don’t know where — and we need your help.”

Despite a demand for the deposit of $6 million into an authenticated Bitcoin account by the second deadline if the $4 million ransom was not met by the first deadline, it was reported by TMZ that no money has been transferred and the account remains empty.

Although authorities do not know of any communication between the Guthrie family and Nancy’s abductor, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department shared a statement via X ahead of the final ransom deadline, saying that the Guthries requested a police presence at Nancy’s Catalina Foothills home.

“At the request of the Guthrie family, PCSD will maintain a presence at Nancy Guthrie’s residence for security. Media & the public are reminded to follow all traffic & private property laws. No trespassing is allowed on the Guthrie property. Violations are subject to enforcement,” the department tweeted.

In a report from TMZ, Harvey Levin discussed how the time frame in the ransom note they received revealed the likelihood of Nancy being held within close proximity of Tucson — narrowing down the search radius to New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, Wyoming, Oklahoma, parts of California, western Texas and northern Mexico.

“Once payment is made, there is a time reference on how quickly Nancy will be returned [to Tucson],” Levin explained. “And when they say return to Tucson, you look at that time period, and you have to imagine if they’re saying it will be within a certain period of time, you look at how would they get her back?”

“And so when they drive, they’re not going to drive over the speed limit because if they get stopped, the game is over for them,” Levin added. “We have now looked at a 60 mph radius, given the time frame that is in that letter.”

A $50,000 reward offered by the FBI still stands for whoever is able to lead authorities to Nancy Guthrie, as the search continues after she disappeared from her home over a week ago.
