Glen Powell Reveals Hilarious (But Mean) Prank He and Joe Jonas Played On Sister Leslie

Hollywood actor Glen Powell has revealed the hilarious, but incredibly harsh, prank he once played on his youngest sister Leslie.

Powell, 37, recalled the prank during an exclusive interview with People. He was chatting with the publication at a special screening of his new black comedy thriller movie, “How to Make a Killing,” in Los Angeles on Saturday, February 14.

The film, directed by John Patton Ford, is loosely inspired by Robert Hamer and John Dighton’s 1949 British film “Kind Hearts and Coronets.” It will hit theaters in the United States on February 20.

It focuses on Powell’s Becket Redfellow, a blue-collar worker disowned by his massively wealthy family at birth. The plot follows his efforts to reclaim his inheritance, regardless of the relatives standing in his way (per IMDb). Its ensemble cast also includes Margaret Qualley, Jessica Henwick, Bill Camp, Zach Woods, Topher Grace, and Ed Harris.

Regarding the prank Powell says he played on his musician sister Leslie, 33, it also involved a famous former co-star of his.

Glen Powell’s new movie involves a lot of family-related shenanigans, which prompted People to ask the star what the most mischievous thing he ever did to his parents or siblings was.

Powell responded in shockingly funny fashion, saying, “I did… a prank phone call on my sister [Leslie] with Joe Jonas of getting arrested, and my sister literally was searching in every jail in Georgia for the two of us.”

Jonas, 36, appeared alongside Powell in J.D. Dillard’s 2022 biographical war movie “Devotion.”

The actor continued, “Joe figured out a way to get — I think it was on like Google Translate — for it to sound like a jail was calling my sister for a collect call, and so… my sister accepted the call, and I basically just pretended like Joe and I hit somebody in a golf cart and that we needed to be bailed out.”

Powell went on, “And my sister took it very seriously. And then I ended the call, and then my sister searched every jail in Georgia looking for Joe Jonas and me. It was very sweet of her. It showed the dedication that my sister has to me, but I’m not going to do a mean prank on her like that again because she’s too sweet.”

While it is undoubtedly hilarious, there’s also no doubt it was an incredibly harsh prank to play on a loved one. However, Leslie did get her revenge.

Without explaining the specific details, Powell said, “She did get me back. She was salivating to return that favor, I remember.”

Despite his willingness to prank her in epic fashion, Glen Powell clearly loves his sister very much. He has spoken extremely highly of her in the past.

In a 2014 interview with Nylon, he called Leslie “no doubt my favorite artist of all.” He also said, Nothing puts me in a better mood than [Leslie’s] music. Remember the name. She’s a star.”

Per Leslie Powell’s IMDb page, she’s an actress who has also worked in the movie world in the movie department and on soundtracks.

Her acting credits include Glen’s movies “Jumping Off Bridges” (2006), “Hidden Figures” (2016), Everybody Wants Some!! (2016), “Twisters” (2024), and the 2005 Western miniseries “Into the West.”

She’s also worked in the music department on movies like the aforementioned “Twisters” and another of Glen’s films, “Anyone But You” (2023), and on the soundtracks of “Twisters” and yet another of Glen’s credits, “The Running Man” (2025).

Glen Powell is in for yet another exciting year in 2026. As well as “How to Make a Killing,” he’s also set to appear in J.J. Abrams’ science fantasy movie “The Great Beyond.” In that one, which hits theaters on November 13, he’ll star alongside Jenna Ortega, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Merritt Wever, and the iconic Samuel L. Jackson.
