“One Battle After Another” won Best Motion Picture Comedy!

Paul Thomas Anderson wrote and directed “One Battle After Another,” which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Teyana Taylor, Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall, and Chase Infiniti. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film follows “a washed-up revolutionary who lives in a state of stoned paranoia, surviving off-grid with his spirited and self-reliant daughter, Willa. When his evil nemesis resurfaces and Willa goes missing, the former radical scrambles to find her as both father and daughter battle the consequences of their pasts.”

“One Battle After Another” won quite a few awards at the 83rd Golden Globes. Teyana Taylor took home the award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, where she was in competition with “Wicked: For Good” star Ariana Grande.

Taylor could win more awards for her performance as the year goes on. Recently, she received a nomination for the Actor Awards (formerly known as the SAG Awards).

The dark comedy also took home a coveted award: Best Director – Motion Picture. Anderson, a prolific director known for movies like “There Will Be Blood” and “Boogie Nights,” graciously accepted the award. He also won Best Screenplay.

Best Motion Picture – Drama

LONDON, ENGLAND – DECEMBER 17: Chloé Zhao attends the photocall for “Hamnet” at Shakespeare’s Globe.

“Hamnet” won Best Motion Picture Drama!

“Hamnet,” as the title suggests, “tells the powerful story of love and loss that inspired the creation of Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece, Hamlet,” per Rotten Tomatoes.

Best Motion Picture wasn’t the only award “Hamnet” won tonight. Jessie Buckley won Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama. Although Chloé Zhao didn’t win for either writing or directing the film, she made a heartfelt speech following producer Stephen Spielberg’s many thanks.

Buckley has garnered Oscar buzz for her performance, although she told People, “I haven’t fully worked out how I feel about that. I don’t think any of us take for granted what our jobs are, and there’s been so much extraordinary work put out. I’m trying to just sit in it all and feel it out and just step into the river and see where it goes.”

Buckley also received an Actor Award nomination for her role, solidifying her as an Oscar contender.

Zhao may not have won Best Director at the Golden Globes, but she’ll likely be a contender when it comes to the Oscars. After all, she’s already an Oscar-winning director. Her 2020 film “Nomadland” won her Best Director and Best Picture at the Oscars, making Zhao the second woman ever to win an Oscar for Best Director.
