How Long Is ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’? When Does It End?

If you’re watching the premiere of HBO’s “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” then you might be surprised by how quickly the first episode ends. And no, you’re not missing anything. The episode really is extra short.

‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Is Less Than 45 Minutes Long

HBO’s newest “Game of Thrones” prequel, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” is less than 45 minutes long. So yes, the episode is probably a lot shorter than you were expecting it to be.

According to HBO’s official schedule, the premiere episode begins at 9:02 p.m. Central/10:02 p.m. Eastern, and is over just a little more than 40 minutes later.

At 9:47 p.m. Central/10:47 p.m. Eastern, the episode immediately re-airs on HBO on TV.

Not only is each episode short (some of the coming episodes will likely be even shorter), but the first season is only six episodes long. This isn’t a sprawling, epic story like “Game of Thrones.” It’s a closer-knit tale adapted from the short story “The Hedge Knight” by George R.R. Martin, from Martin’s “Tales of Dunk and Egg” novellas.

HBO’s full logline for the series reads: “A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

The Prequel Series Has Already Been Renewed for a 2nd Season

The first episode was called “The Hedge Knight,” and HBO’s synopsis read: “On his journey to the forthcoming tournament in Ashford, Dunk meets a clever young boy named Egg, who offers to be his squire.”

According to a press release, HBO has already renewed “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” for a second season. The second season will premiere in 2027.

According to Esquire, the episodes will air every Sunday night through February 22. So the schedule looks like this:

  • January 18 – Premiere “The Hedge Knight”
  • January 25 – Episode 2, “Hard Salt Beef”
  • February 1 – Episode 3
  • February 8 – Episode 4
  • February 15 – Episode 5
  • February 22 – Episode 6 (season finale)

With how great “House of the Dragon” has been, we have high hopes that this prequel series is also going to be equally exciting.
