‘Mad Men’ Star Bravely Reveals Neurological Disability

January Jones is opening up about a condition she says has affected her for as long as she can remember. The 47-year-old “Mad Men” alum shared a candid Instagram video revealing she lives with misophonia, a neurological disorder that can trigger intense discomfort or distress in response to specific sounds.

The Cleveland Clinic describes misophonia as a condition marked by a “decreased tolerance to specific sounds and things you can sense related to them.”

“For today, I’d like to talk about something that I’ve been struggling with my whole life, which is called misophonia. My whole life,” January said. “And it’s gotten progressively worse over the years.”

Why Her Brother-in-Law’s Chip-Eating Has Become a Trigger

In the video, January candidly explained that one of her biggest triggers comes from a surprising source: her brother-in-law’s love of chips.

“I have a brother-in-law whose favorite food is chips,” she said. “Just all the time, he eats chips.”

The star further added that she has tried to address it with him, but he doesn’t take it seriously.

“I have talked to him about this many times, and he seems to think it’s funny to eat chips around me now, because it’s an ongoing joke to see what happens and see what I do. I just think it’s really unkind to my issue and also very dangerous for him.”

Despite her frustration, January closed the video with a touch of her signature dry wit.

“Otherwise, he’s a really nice guy. And it’s his birthday today, so happy birthday. I hope you’re eating a f–k load of chips,” she said, ending the message with a smile.

Her openness struck a chord with viewers, many of whom live with misophonia themselves.

The condition varies from person to person, but common triggers often include chewing, tapping, breathing, and other repetitive sounds.

For many fans, January’s honesty offered a sense of recognition and relief in knowing they aren’t alone.

January is not the only public figure to discuss the disorder. Melissa Gilbert, Kelly Osbourne, and Kelly Ripa have all previously shared their own experiences with misophonia.

The actress has kept much of her personal life private in recent years, but made headlines over the summer when she stepped out for a rare public appearance with her son.
