Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be returning to ABC, just six days after it was suspended “indefinitely.”
“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” The Walt Disney Company told PEOPLE in a statement. “It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
The suspension came following controversial comments Kimmel made in his monologue following the death of Charlie Kirk.
Over 400 Celebrities Showed Support For Jimmy Kimmel In Very Public Way
The outpouring of support for Kimmel after news of his suspension first came out has truly been incredible. And some celebrities took it to another level.

“We the people must never accept government threats to our freedom of speech,” the letter states. “Efforts by leaders to pressure artists, journalists, and companies with retaliation for their speech strike at the heart of what it means to live in a free country.”
Among those who signed are Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck Tom Hanks, Selena Gomez, Pedro Pascal, Diego Luna, Martin Short, Meryl Streep, Jason Bateman, Robert De Niro, Jane Fonda, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Rodrigo, Ben Stiller, Jean Smart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Keaton, Regina King, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Natalie Portman, Maya Rudolph, Mark Ruffalo, and Kerry Washington.
‘The View’ Breaks Their Silence On Jimmy Kimmel Suspension
Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin addressed Kimmel’s suspension on Monday, Sept. 22.
“Did y’all really think we weren’t going to talk about Jimmy Kimmel? Have you watched the show over the last 29 seasons?” co-host Whoopi Goldberg said. “No one silences us,” she said.
Goldberg added that they waited to talk about the suspension because they “took a breath to see if Jimmy was going to say anything about it first.”
“You can not like a show, and it can go off the air. Someone can say something they shouldn’t and get taken off the air,” Goldberg stated. “But the government cannot apply pressure to force someone to be silenced.”
Ana Navarro also took a moment to thank the viewers.
“For me, I want to start by thanking our loyal viewers for demanding truth and courage from us. You deserve it and we will give it to you,” she said.
