ABC announced on Wednesday that Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show is suspended “indefinitely.”
“Jimmy Kimmel Live will be pre-empted indefinitely,” an ABC spokesperson told Rolling Stone. However, no reason was given for the decision.
Nexstar also released a statement on the decision. “Nexstar’s owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the foreseeable future beginning with tonight’s show,” the company said. The suspension comes following controversial comments Kimmel made in his Monday night monologue.
Jimmy Kimmel Fans Are Showing Support
“I stand with Jimmy Kimmel,” one fan wrote.
“Jimmy Kimmel will get a better job,” another account commented.
“I’d like to congratulate Jimmy Kimmel in advance for sweeping the 2026 Emmys,” another person said.
“Please: Jimmy Kimmel needs to be the next guest on Colbert. Now. Tonight. Please,” someone stated.
“I visited the Jimmy Kimmel show for the first time last year & it was so cool to be in the audience of a talk show & I even won this tshirt for singing in front of the audience during one of the breaks. It was a fun experience & it’s shocking that his show won’t be around anymore,” a fan explained.
Stephen Colbert Recently Received a Standing Ovation After Emmy Win Following Show’s Cancellation
Stephen Colbert won an Emmy Award on Sunday, Sept. 14, less than two months after his show was canceled. And the reaction from the crowd said it all, as he received a standing ovation after his name was announced.
“Stephen! Stephen! Stephen,” the audience erupted, shouting for the late-night host. And while he addressed his show’s cancellation, his speech was certainly a fan-favorite.
“I have never loved my country more desperately,” Colbert said. “Be brave, and if the elevator tries to bring you down, punch a higher floor.”
Kimmel was one of the many who publicly showed his support for Colbert, sharing a message on his Instagram stories after the news was revealed. Jimmy Fallon, David Letterman, and Jon Stewart also spoke out.
I’m just as shocked as everyone,” Fallon wrote on Instagram. “Stephen is one of the sharpest, funniest hosts to ever do it. I really thought I’d ride this out with him for years to come. I’m sad that my family and friends will need a new show to watch every night at 11:30.”
CBS has stated the reason for the cancellation was due to “financial” reasons.
