Kelly Ripa’s Return Date To ‘Live With Kelly and Mark’ After Surgery Revealed

Kelly Ripa has a stunning smile, so it was surprising that she needed gum surgery. The “Live With Kelly and Mark” host took a break from the ABC talk show and was expected to return after Labor Day. Her return to the talk show has been revealed after she gave surprising details about her healing process.

Ripa, 55, revealed that she brushed her gums and teeth too hard and needed surgery to heal her gums. “They take the skin off of the roof of your mouth, and they put it [over your gums],” she said on her “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast. The ailment is called “gum recession.”

She’s set to return to sit beside her husband, Mark Consuelos, on Tuesday, Sept. 8, according to Entertainment Weekly. The former “All My Children” star posted a video on Instagram on Aug. 19 of her laying on a large sleep number bed with producers Jan Schillay and Albert Bianchini while recording her podcast. The caption claimed Ripa almost fell asleep while recording.

“I am so sleepy. I’m extra comfortable today because Jan, Albert, and I are in bed together,” she said into a microphone that was in her hands. It looked like the talk show host was without makeup, and she spoke softly.

The podcast host released a new episode on the same day and said recovery after the grafting surgery required her not to talk for 10 days. Her voice doesn’t sound like she’s fully recovered. Ripa said the surgery was painful, and she couldn’t eat. Mark said she could only eat soft foods and couldn’t use a straw.

Michelle Buteau Co-hosted ‘Live With Kelly and Mark’

Michelle Buteau was the podcast guest. The “Survival of the Thickest” star praised her for getting the procedure done instead of hesitating. “Before you praise me, I was supposed to do it five years ago,” the talk show host interrupted.

The doctor told Ripa that she waited too long and the procedure needed to be done immediately. “Death creeps in through the gums, by the way,” the mother of three children warned.

Mark and celebrity cohosts are currently filming episodes of “Live With Kelly and Mark” ahead of time. Buteau was a guest and cohost in two different episodes. Other guest hosts included  Kevin Jonas, Mila Kunis, Carrie Coon, Pamela Adlon, and Scott Foley.

Ripa said she records the podcast in her son’s former bedroom. The couple’s youngest son, Joaquin Consuelos, finished his run playing young Biff in “The Death of a Salesman” on Broadway earlier this month. Christopher Abbott from “Poor Things” played the older version of the character. His run overlapped with his father’s run in “Fallen Angels.”

Ripa sounds like she’s slowly recovering and getting back to work. New episodes of her podcast “Let’s Talk Off Camera” are being released. She is expected to fully return to her role on the ABC show on Sept. 8.
