Kelly Ripa is sharing a glimpse into a spontaneous family outing that took an unexpected turn and ended up becoming one of her favorite recent memories.
During an episode of ABC’s “Live with Kelly and Mark,” Ripa and her husband, Mark Consuelos, discussed how a last-minute Mother’s Day decision turned into a joyful moment. The couple revealed that they decided to keep things simple and spontaneous, which led to a fun family adventure they ended up loving.
Kelly Ripa Says Her Mother’s Day Was ‘So Fun’
DisneyOn the May 11 episode of “Live with Kelly and Mark,” Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos revealed how they spent Mother’s Day with two of their three children.
They said a spontaneous dinner idea was courtesy of their youngest son, Joaquin Consuelos, who is currently starring on Broadway in the play “Death of a Salesman.” Page Six reported that instead of a fancy meal celebrating the family matriarch, the clan decided to go more low-key.
“They had a great idea,” the former “All My Children” star explained. “This is so unlike us, it hasn’t happened in years and years.”
“My son Joaquin texted me from backstage, he’s on Broadway. He goes, ‘I thought it would be fun if we had McDonald’s for your birthday.'”
Ripa added, “And I said, ‘Uhh, it’s not my birthday.’ And he goes, ‘I mean Mother’s Day, you know what I mean!’ And so we had McDonald’s!”
The family went to the fast food chain, where the talk show host revealed her purchase. “I had a Big Mac and large fries!”
Consuelos asked Ripa, “It was fun, right?” She responded, “It was so fun! I was like, ‘This is crazy!’”
Ripa added, “It was delicious. I had the best time. You know what cleanup was? Trash! Done!”
Kelly Ripa Joked Her One Food Aversion May Come From Mark Consuelos
DisneyAlthough she admits to thoroughly enjoying her impromptu Mother’s Day meal at McDonald’s, Kelly Ripa will likely not be ordering one popular menu item anytime soon.
The talk show host probably won’t be ordering any of the egg-featured breakfast items on the chain’s menu. They’re delicious, but she doesn’t like eggs.
Ripa’s aversion to eggs was revealed after Consuelos quoted a statistic that those who eat more of the food item can see a reduction in Alzheimer’s risk by 27%, PEOPLE Magazine reported.
It was then that the television personality revealed she can’t eat eggs in any fashion, even when included in other foods.
Disney“I don’t like eggs,” she admitted. “You should start sneaking eggs in somehow. Hiding the eggs.”
However, even if her husband of 30 years hid every bit of egg in her food, Ripa claimed she would still find them and pick them out. Yet, she admitted, this is a new development and alluded to Consuelos being the root of her egg aversion.
“I just sort of developed an aversion to them over time,” Ripa claimed. “I think it’s when you started asking me to cook you eggs all the time because you like the way I cook them. And then I sort of slowly over time, I was like, ‘Yuck.’”
“Live with Kelly and Mark” airs weekdays in syndication.
