Florence Pugh Makes Powerful Comments About the Future of Her Acting Career

Florence Pugh has had an incredible career, with some of her most memorable roles including “We Live in Time,” “Black Widow,” “Midsommar,” “Don’t Worry, Darling,” and “Little Women.” In an interview with Elle Spain, published on Thursday, August 20, she spoke about her career and the importance she now places on taking care of herself.

Florence Pugh Makes Powerful Comments About Her Career

When asked what the meaning of success is, Pugh replied, “Taking care of myself. It’s that simple. Being able to breathe. For a long time, I’ve said I needed to slow down, but the truth is I never did. In the end, I was burning myself out.”

She continued, reflecting on the changes she had made that have positively impacted her life. “Now I’m dedicating more time to my family and friends. I need to recharge to keep tackling such demanding roles. So for me, success is having learned to stop,” she said. Her words are a powerful reminder to prioritize self-care, but some have also interpreted her comments as a suggestion that she will be taking time away from acting. Daily Mail reports that she “hinted at taking a break from acting,” although the exact meaning of her words is open to interpretation.

In her interview, Pugh was asked to choose only one character she has previously played, and she chose Cathy from “East of Eden.” This is an exciting choice because the upcoming Netflix series is Zoe Kazan’s adaptation of John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel. It will be released on October 1. Speaking of her choice, she said, “I’m so proud of that production, and I got to do some really special things with it.”

Another choice was Lady Macbeth. “Every year I take on more extreme stunts—like jumping off a skyscraper for Thunderbolts —but when I think about that 19-year-old girl filming her second movie, I feel so incredibly proud,” Pugh shared.

Florence Pugh’s Freedom of Expression

Pugh revealed that when choosing a role, she needs to fall in love with the character, regardless of who they are or their background. “There are wonderful scripts I’ve read that I’m sure will make great films, but the character wasn’t right for me,” she said. “As an actress, you also have to know when to step aside and let certain roles go to the person who’s really meant to play them.”

In addition to being praised for her talents as an actress, Pugh is often considered one of the best-dressed stars with an eye for fashion and a skill at dressing well. She described fashion as a “very powerful means of expression,” adding, “Dressing can be a reflective act and, at the same time, completely free.”

Pugh also celebrated her stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray and how they have “fun experimenting.” She continued, “If I haven’t dared to try a different, unexpected look for a red carpet event for too long, I feel like something’s missing. The best thing about fashion is that it’s art. It doesn’t have to appeal to everyone. I love not feeling confined to a single aesthetic. Change is also a way of growing.”
