As filming of “Chicago Fire” Season 15 gets underway, fans are getting ready for some major changes. With Joe Minoso and Dermot Mulroney leaving the series, it opens the door for new cast members. One of those is “Shadowhunters” star Matthew Daddario.
“Chicago Fire” has already announced that Da’Vinchi will also be joining the cast. It looks like the two newcomers will come into the series at the same level of training, and it all connects back to something Jocelyn Hudon, who plays Paramedic Lyla Novak, shared about new probies.
Who Will Matthew Daddario Play on ‘Chicago Fire’?
GettyTV Insider confirms that the “Shadowhunters” star will play a candidate. There is currently no name given, and it’s not clear just how long he will be in the show. He’s currently only confirmed as a guest star.
“Shadowhunters” fans will be excited to see Daddario return to their screens. He gained a huge following, along with Harry Shum Jr., as the two played Alec and Magnus, the fan-favorite couple that many rooted for. Their romantic arc spanned three seasons, becoming one of the most positive representations of a gay couple on TV when it aired. While the series was on Netflix for the longest time, it’s now available to stream on Hulu.
Da’Vinchi teased Daddario joinin the series when he shared a photo from the set on Aug. 20, 2026, on his Instagram. He was sat on Truck 81 with Daddario and Brandon Larracuente, who will return as Vasquez. The two new characters have “candidate” written on their shirts, which means they are fresh out of the Fire Academy and are probies.
This tracks with Hudon’s comments about “a bunch of new probies” joining the series. It appears that “Chicago Fire” is looking to add a lot of fresh blood to the ranks, which can lead to some exciting moments as they look to prove themselves and are willing to take risks without realizing the dangers that can put them and their fellow team members in.
‘Chicago Fire’ Season 15 Will Bring Change
GettyAll eyes are on how the new season will play out. While fans know that Minoso is leaving, he will get a few episodes to say goodbye. Mulroney’s character is leaving almost immediately, giving no time for closure for fans.
“Chicago Fire” Season 14 ended with a major cliffhanger, with multiple characters’ lives on the line. With the exits, it opens the door for a new addition to Squad 3, which hasn’t happened since Cruz moved from Truck to Squad. With multiple exits last season and no permanent additions except for Vasquez, it also opens the door for a new permanent candidate on Truck 81.
The image from Da’Vinchi also hints at Vasquez’s decision that he had to make at the end of “Chicago Fire” Season 14. Not only does it confirm that he makes it out alive, but it suggests that he decides to stick with Fire rather than move back over to the police force, where he was booted from before the season, despite his clear love for that career.
“Chicago Fire” Season 15 premieres on Oct. 7, 2026, at 9/8c on NBC and streams the following day on Peacock.
