Eyes are still on the fate of Cruz and the rest of Firehouse 51 after the explosive “Chicago Fire” Season 14 finale. Multiple lives were left on the line, and hearts are racing even more with the news that Joe Minoso is leaving the series. Dermot Mulroney is also departing the show, with his exit immediate compared to Minoso’s, which will take a few episodes.
With departing cast members, it means there are new team members joining, and fans already learned that one of those would be Da’Vinchi. The “All American” alum will take on the role of a new firefighter candidate, Marcus Burke, and he won’t be the only one!
Jocelyn Hudon Hints More New Cast Members on ‘Chicago Fire’
NBCIn an interview with E! News, Jocelyn Hudon, who plays paramedic Lyla Novak on the series, shared that there will be more probies. They’re the new firefighters, with the nickname standing for “probational firefighter.” This is a term “Chicago Fire” fans are more than used to, with the series immediately kicking off with Peter Mills joining Firehouse 51 straight out of the Academy.
Hudon shared, “We on Chicago Fire have a bunch of new probies [probational firefighters], so that is very exciting for us and I know the audience is going to love them.”
She didn’t go into how many newbies would be joining the family. While she said “them,” it’s possible that one of those is Da’Vinchi.
It’s not unusual for the “One Chicago” series to bring in multiple new characters, especially with the exit of multiple others. However, despite losing three firefighters from Firehouse 51 during the 14th season, only one was added. There was a floater continually around, but he was never made an official part of the unit despite openings. It looks like Firehouse 51 could finally get some permanent replacements.
Still Focus on Who Will Survive the Fire
NBCThroughout all of this, there is still a lot of focus on who will survive the fire from the end of “Chicago Fire” Season 14. With Minoso’s exit, eyes are on Cruz being the one to perish. The first hour will see a cameo from “Chicago Med’s” Dr. Archer, who is in charge of the Emergency Department, which doesn’t bode well.
The one thing allowing fans to hold onto hope is that Minoso will have a few episodes to wrap up Cruz’s storyline. This hints that he won’t die, but he could suffer injuries that lead to him retiring. He could also decide that the dangers of the job aren’t worth it for his growing family.
One of the lesser talked-about deaths is Ballad, played by Leroy S. Williams III, who is the floater right now at Firehouse 51. If he’s not getting upped to series regular, it could hint that “Chicago Fire” is going to remain realistic with a death through him while not affecting too much for the main characters. This also then opens the door to the need for more newbies to join the team.
Mulroney’s exit is less of a concern for fans, although that doesn’t mean anyone is happy about it. Chief Pascal was outside the building when it exploded, and unless he runs in, it means that he’s one of the only characters confirmed as safe. He had been terminated during the season, so it’s an easy way to write him out and open the door for Severide to move up the ranks to Battalion Chief.
