In 2017, Meghan Markle made the decision to step back from acting after she got engaged to Prince Harry. But following news that the couple has decided to relocate back to the United Kingdom, it seems Markle is also ready to return to the screen.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Markle is in “advanced discussions to join an existing Netflix TV show that shoots in the U.K.”
“The part is currently being written, so it’s unclear how many episodes she would appear in. Additional details were not immediately available,” the outlet further details.
Shortly after, PEOPLE reports that the role is in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen Netflix Series.
Australian outlet News.com.au first reported the news that Markle was eyeing a return to acting on the morning of Friday, Aug. 21, with Senior entertainment reporter Bronte Coy, who broke the story, telling BBC Radio 4’s Today that the offer for the upcoming project played a role in their decision to move back.
“This is such a key part of the puzzle,” she said. “I think when we all heard that news that Harry and Meghan were moving here, and within a matter of days, and the kids were enrolled in school, everyone was asking, what is Meghan going to be doing?”
She added at the time that the acting role was ““significant, and (Meghan’s) very excited about it.”
King Charles Played A Factor In Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Return To The U.K.
Insiders who spoke with Page Six provided a list of reasons why the couple has decided to return to the United Kingdom, with one of them being King Charles. He learned of Harry and Meghan’s move on Sunday, with an insider telling Page Six that Charles “looks forward” to spending more time with his son as well as his grandchildren, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5.
“I know that Charles is the reason they are moving back,” a royal source told the outlet.
Charles, who is 77 years old, revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024 and made the first move to reconcile with his son last month when he invited them to his country home of Highgrove. It was the first time Charles saw his grandchildren in four years.
However, despite having made up with his father, Harry is still estranged from his brother Prince William.
