Meghan Markle is getting back in front of the camera. The Duchess of Sussex has been offered a major new role that coincides with her return to the UK. Meghan and husband Prince Harry moved back to his home country after six years in California.
Meghan and Prince Harry’s return was a shock to most after the couple had stepped back from royal duties. It was also a surprise to King Charles, who learned about it just days before their arrival. Meghan’s acting comeback is equally significant to fans, as the actress hasn’t appeared in a scripted series in nearly a decade.
Meghan Markle Will Return For Her Biggest Role Since ‘Suits’
Meghan Markle became a recognized actress with her role as Rachel Zane in the long-running legal drama “Suits.” The Duchess of Sussex starred in the series from 2011 to 2018; her final scene was filmed in 2017. Meghan’s most recent film role was in 2015’s “Anti-Social.”
The Duchess’s latest role has not been announced. A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan declined to comment but did not deny the project. The news was first reported by the royal correspondent of news.com.au. Coy revealed it on BBC Radio Four’s “Today.” He also added that the role is “significant” and that Meghan is “very excited about it.”
After meeting Harry in 2016, Meghan decided to retire from acting. Upon completing her part in “Suits,” she announced the beginning of a “new chapter” away from the screen. But despite stepping back from scripted acting roles, Meghan has still appeared onscreen.
Since her 2018 wedding, the Duchess of Sussex has appeared in the documentaries “Queen of the World,” “Live to Lead,” “Heart of Invictus,” and “Polo.” In 2026, she made an appearance with her husband on “MasterChef Australia.” Her lifestyle series, “With Love, Meghan,” reached 12.6 million hours viewed in its first week on Netflix.
Meghan’s return to scripted entertainment was marked with “Close Personal Friends.” She filmed a cameo as herself alongside Lily Collins and Jack Quaid in 2025. The film is currently in post-production without a release date. However, Meghan’s new project is set to be her first full-time return since “Suits.”
Meghan Markle And Prince Harry’s Return Is Not Intended To Be Permanent
Prince Harry, 41, and Meghan Markle’s, 45, return has raised much speculation. It has been confirmed that the couple’s children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, will attend school in the UK. But the Sussexes still retain their Montecito, California, home. They also own a vacation property in Portugal.
Meghan continues to be involved with Archewell Productions. Her charitable foundation with Prince Harry, Archewell Philanthropies, will continue to be based in the United States. Prince Harry remains committed to his charitable work in both the UK and the United States.
The couple had reunited with King Charles and Queen Camilla in July. The monarch met his grandchildren for the first time in four years. Despite the last-minute news of his son’s return, King Charles was reportedly “welcoming” of Prince Harry and his family’s arrival.
