Nancy Guthrie Investigation Update: FBI Contacts Mexican Law Enforcement

More than two weeks after Nancy Guthrie disappeared, the search for Savannah Guthrie’s mother has entered a third week and now extends beyond U.S. borders. Nancy, 84, was last seen on January 31 at her home in Tucson.

The next day, investigators found a trail of blood inside the residence and began treating the case as a suspected abduction. In the days that followed, multiple ransom notes surfaced, deepening the fear and heartbreak surrounding the family.

As authorities chase new leads, the uncertainty only adds to the heartache for the family still holding onto hope. Here’s another update in the case.

FBI Expands Nancy Guthrie Search Into Mexico

Federal investigators have reached out to law enforcement agencies in Mexico as they expand the search for Nancy.

Police sources told TMZ that multiple agencies south of the border have been alerted as part of the growing investigation. So far, officials say that the effort has not produced confirmed leads. Nancy has been missing for 18 days, and no suspects have been publicly identified.

Sources say investigators are examining the possibility that Nancy could have been taken across the border.

Authorities have reviewed Border Patrol camera footage and other surveillance systems while tracking potential movements connected to the case.

Michael Ruiz, a New York-based investigative reporter for Fox News Digital, tweeted:

“NEW: A federal law enforcement source confirms the FBI has contacted Mexican authorities in connection with the Nancy Guthrie case. However, this comes shortly after the sheriff said the investigation hasn’t developed any firm evidence that she’s been taken across the border.”

NewsNation reporter Brian Entin also confirmed the development, writing:

“A federal law enforcement source tells @LibbeyDean_ the FBI has contacted Mexican authorities in connection with the Nancy Guthrie case. The sheriff has said there is no evidence she is in Mexico.”

There is no evidence confirming she entered Mexico. Officials describe the outreach as a precautionary step as they pursue every possible scenario.

A New Ransom Note Reportedly Demands New Cryptocurrency

As the investigation stretches into another week, another ransom message has reportedly emerged.

TMZ says it received a fourth note from people claiming responsibility for Nancy’s abduction. According to the outlet, the message contains what it described as a “highly sophisticated demand” similar to the earlier $6 million requests, but this time seeking payment in a cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin.”

The outlet also reported that the letter “graphically described the consequences if the ransom isn’t paid.” TMZ said it turned the email over to the FBI after receiving it.

Authorities have not confirmed the authenticity of any ransom notes sent to media outlets. A law enforcement source cautioned that anyone attempting to exploit the family with false demands would face serious consequences, saying, “They will go to federal prison for a long, long time.”

DNA Setback Intensifies Pressure as Sheriff Maintains Hope

Earlier this week, the investigation hit a setback. A glove discovered about two miles from Nancy’s home did not match DNA collected inside the residence or any profile in the national CODIS database. For a brief moment, the glove had been viewed as a potentially critical piece of evidence. It appeared similar to one worn by the masked man captured on doorbell footage in the early hours of February 1.

When the DNA failed to connect, scrutiny intensified. The outcome placed added pressure on Sheriff Chris Nanos, with renewed questions about decisions made during the first hours of the search.

Still, Nanos says he has not lost faith. “They ask me, do I have proof of life? I ask them, ” Is there proof of death?” Nanos said.

He continues to maintain that there is no confirmed evidence that Nancy is dead. For her family, that distinction carries weight as the search moves into another week.

Investigators are now pursuing cross-border leads and reviewing new developments, including ransom messages reported.

Authorities say the case remains active. For those who love Nancy, hope remains steady, even as the days grow longer.
