New details from the ransom notes tied to the Nancy Guthrie case have revealed a major setback in the investigation.
On April 6, TMZ received yet another ransom letter from someone who claims to have knowledge of the suspects.
In the latest notes, the sender alleged that Nancy was previously spotted in Sonora, Mexico, and that she is no longer alive.
TMZ founder Harvey Levin spoke with Ashleigh Banfield, revealing new details about the latest ransom notes and the steps the FBI has reportedly taken.
Nancy Guthrie Update: FBI Tries to Track Ransom Sender, Says Harvey Levin
In the latest episode of “Drop Dead Serious,” Levin claimed the FBI appears to believe that the ransom letters are legit, adding that they have taken necessary steps to track the sender.
“I know that the FBI believes that those ransom notes are real. That that is from the kidnapper,” Levin told Ashleigh Banfield. “They have done everything they can, from what I understand, to figure out who sent these notes.”
Levin revealed that the FBI coordinated with his IT team for hours to trace the sender, but to no avail.
“They were on with my IT team for hours and hours and hours working with my IT team, and they came up dry,” Levin continued. “And they could not find it, and they still haven’t found out who wrote it.”
Levin Says Bitcoin Address Tracing ‘Came Up Dry’
Levin also suggests that the Nancy Guthrie case might be a “cold case” and that investigators are “at a dead end right now.”
“This is a cold case and they’re just waiting for one of those breaks that often comes, but they are at a dead end right now,” Levin claimed.
In the same interview, Levin brought up that Savannah Guthrie “was going to pay” the ransom, but for whatever reason, they “backed off.”
“They had a reason for backing off,” Levin added. “I know they did something. I don’t feel comfortable saying it, but they did because they had asked me not to way back then. I don’t know if it’s changed at this point.”
Levin continued, “But they thought they had a way of tracking that Bitcoin address. Didn’t work.”
The TMZ founder added that the FBI “spent a heck of a lot of time trying to track down this guy’s email,” but weren’t able to do it.
“I can tell you that the FBI did something with that Bitcoin address from the kidnapper,” he continued. “And they actually did something, but came up dry there. And I just never thought of the perfect crime being something like this, where somehow you could evade everyone.”
Pay the ransom, bury your mom if she’s dead give her peace. They have the money. If it were my mom I’d would have paid it from the very start. Where’s the love.
