Kyle Richards is officially entering a new chapter as a mom.
The “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star’s youngest daughter, Portia Umansky, has moved into college for her freshman year, marking a major milestone for the Richards-Umansky family.
Portia is attending the University of Colorado Boulder, and despite Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky’s separation, both parents were there to help their youngest daughter get settled. Portia’s older sisters Farrah Brittany and Sophia Umansky also joined the family for the move, with Farrah and Sophia documenting parts of the experience on Instagram.
The milestone comes after Richards, 57, admitted she was already bracing herself for the emotions that would come with watching her youngest child leave home.
Portia Umansky Moves Into Her Freshman College Dorm
Portia, 18, received plenty of help turning her new college dorm into a home away from home.
According to Bravo, the family traveled to Boulder, Colorado, to get Portia settled at school. The Agency’s Boulder office also welcomed the incoming freshman with a basket of merchandise, including a hat and other goodies.
Farrah and Sophia then got to work helping their younger sister with the actual move-in.
Farrah shared photos from inside the dorm and joked that Sophia was “putting so much effort into every little detail” of Portia’s room. Meanwhile, Kyle was spotted supervising while wearing a hat and Boulder T-shirt.
Once everything came together, Sophia gave followers a closer look at the finished space. Portia’s bed featured a white duvet, neutral-toned blankets and pillows, stuffed animals and a personalized “Brunette Bombshell” pillow.
But leaving Portia behind proved much harder than decorating the room.
Sophia shared photos of herself crying after saying goodbye to her younger sister, writing in one post that she was “soo not OK.”
The emotional moment brought the sisters’ college experiences full circle. When Sophia moved into her own freshman dorm at George Washington University in 2018, Portia was the younger sister struggling with the goodbye. This time around, it was Sophia having a hard time leaving Portia.
Kyle Richards Was Already Preparing for Portia to Leave Home
Richards previously acknowledged that sending her youngest child to college would be a particularly emotional transition.
“I’m really prepping myself psychologically because she is my baby, the youngest,” Richards told Bravo Insider earlier in August. “Thank God I still have Sophia living at home with me.”
While Richards described the milestone as “really scary,” she also made it clear that she was trying to embrace what it means for Portia.
“I’m just trying to focus on the exciting part, and I’m grateful that she’s not a 5-hour flight away from me like her sisters were,” she said.
Portia is the youngest of Richards’ four daughters. Richards shares Farrah, 37, with ex-husband Guraish Aldjufrie and daughters Alexia, 30, Sophia, 26, and Portia with Umansky.
Richards and Umansky announced their separation in 2023 after 27 years of marriage. Although their relationship has changed significantly in the years since, Portia’s move-in offered another example of the family coming together for an important moment in their children’s lives.
And for Richards, sending the last of her four daughters off to college makes this particular milestone especially significant: After decades of raising children at home, her youngest is officially beginning a life of her own.
