Nancy Guthrie Case: FBI Making Major Change to Investigation

The search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie continues, with it being almost four weeks since she disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona. With law enforcement seemingly being no closer to tracking down the victim or apprehending the suspect, it is inevitable that things will start to change operationally in what investigators are treating as a kidnapping.

It has now emerged that the FBI, who are investigating the case alongside the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, are moving their command post from Tucson to Phoenix.

A member of the FBI surveils the area around Nancy Guthrie’s residence on February 11, 2026 in Tucson, Arizona. Searches continues for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of U.S. journalist and television host Savannah Guthrie, after she went missing from her home on the morning of February 1st.

So far, the FBI has been handling its investigation into the disappearance of Guthrie from a temporary command post in Tucson, Arizona. For many, that makes sense given that this is the area where Guthrie lives, putting agents at the heart of the crime scene.

However, a source close to the FBI investigation has now confirmed to CBS News that the federal agency is planning on moving its command post from Tucson to neighboring Phoenix.

According to the source, the transition is a natural evolution into the investigation as the Phoenix office acts as the main center of operations for the FBI in Arizona. It will also act as a more efficient and effective base for those working on the case in the long term, as most of the agents are originally based in Phoenix rather than Tucson.

The source did reveal, though, that not every member of the FBI team would be moving away from Tucson. The source told CBS News investigative squads, SWAT teams, and evidence recovery teams would remain on-site in Tucson where they have been assigned to the satellite office.

The reward has come from a number of sources, including her family. Savannah released a statement to announce the new reward and urged anyone with information to come forward immediately.

She wrote, “for any information that leads us to her recovery. All of the information about this reward and the details is in the caption below. You can call the 1-800 tip line.
