New On Netflix: The War of the Roses

Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito take a break from the swashbuckling heroics of Romancing the Stone and The Jewel of the Nile for a different kind of action-adventure: the complete and utter disintegration of a marriage. Oliver and Barbara Rose are calling it quits after 17 years and neither wants to give up the house, which leads to a horrifying, hilarious and rather epic battle of the sexes. Douglas and Turner are both spot-on, but the real star of the show is DeVito the director, who pulls off (for the most part) the seemingly impossible tightrope act of keeping the film’s tone constantly on the edge between pitch-black comedy and very unpleasant melodrama. There’s probably no way in hell Hollywood would greenlight a film like The War of the Roses these days, so savor every bitter and spicy minute.

  1. Its a great movie! Being married for 37+ years, believe me, watch this movie and it makes you rethink the little things that bug you about your mate! Life is way too short to sweat the small stuff! Enjoy each other for whom they are and remember why you married each other in the first place!
