Lifelong friendships are special, and for Pedro Pascal, his friendship with Sarah Paulson will always hold a special place in his heart. The actor has repeatedly explained why he will always have love for his longtime friend, Sarah Paulson.
Their friendship began in 1993, when both were 18 and living in New York City.
Pascal’s Heartfelt Message Reaches Paulson Despite His Absence
GettyWhen Pascal, 50, could not attend Paulson’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on December 2, he still made sure she heard his words. During the tribute portion of the event, Amanda Peet read a speech Pascal had written for the occasion.
As per People, she began, “This is what [Pedro] wrote: Missing this makes it too hard to find words. I can thank you both for my ridiculous fortune. Two birds grabbing sticks I never knew were for me and anyone in your heart.”
Pascal’s message continued, “To Sarah, I’ll just say there is no me without you. Without you, I wouldn’t believe in the moon or the sun in the sky. You are the opening in the road. You are the decorated forest, and most importantly, you’re my friend, and I’m yours eternally.”
He ended with, “I’m so f—— proud of you. More, more, I love you more. Period.” Peet then delivered her own remarks after finishing his note.
How Pascal and Paulson Formed Their Bond in 1993
GettyPascal has often spoken about the early days of their friendship. “I met you, Sarah Paulson, in September of 1993, my first month in New York City,” he told Interview Magazine in 2014.
Paulson replied, “Yeah, Fearless. I’ll never forget it as long as I live,” after Pascal reminisced about one of their earliest outings with friends. By the end of the film, he remembered all eight of them sobbing in the theater.
How Their Careers Pulled Them Apart and Brought Them Back Together
GettyAs the 1990s unfolded, Paulson began working steadily. Pascal recalled that they drifted apart during those years. “You went to Los Angeles, and we didn’t reconnect until a few years later,” he said in the same conversation.
When he returned to New York after a stint in Los Angeles, their bond entered what he called “chapter two” and became even stronger.
Paulson later revealed how she supported Pascal during his early struggles. “He’s talked about this publicly, but there were times when I would give him my per diem from a job I was working on so that he could have money to feed himself,” she told Esquire in 2023.
GettyTheir connection eventually helped shape his career. In 2013, Paulson passed along Pascal’s “Game of Thrones” audition tape to Amanda Peet’s husband and series co-creator David Benioff.
Months later, Pascal’s role as Oberyn Martell made him a breakout star.
Shared Milestones From Red Carpets to Broadway
GettyOver the years, the two have built a long list of shared professional moments. They attended the Absurd Person Singular premiere together in 2005 and continued making red carpet appearances through the early 2000s.
In 2014, Paulson interviewed Pascal for Interview Magazine at the height of his “Game of Thrones” fame.
They attended the Screen Actors Guild Awards together in 2016.
In 2019, Paulson celebrated Pascal’s Broadway debut with a heartfelt Instagram post. “I love you @pascalispunk what an extraordinarily moving thing to witness your Broadway debut. I am in awe of you,” she wrote.
Paulson appeared alongside him during a sketch on his 2023 “Saturday Night Live” debut. “It was just a night we didn’t want to end,” she later told Vanity Fair. She said watching the moment felt like “watching his life begin.”
Pascal returned the support in April 2024 when he interviewed Paulson for another Interview Magazine profile. In July 2025, the pair attended the opening night of “Evita” in London.
Why Their Friendship Still Resonates After Three Decades
Paulson spoke openly about Pascal during a November 2025 appearance on “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.” When asked for a surprising fact about him, she joked, “He’s a b***h baby. I’m kidding. Not kidding.”
She added that they fight over who has more demands and that they feel like siblings.
When Cohen asked who pays for dinner now, Paulson answered, “He pays for dinner now.”
She then reflected on witnessing his rise. “I always knew he was the most talented person I knew. And I knew that if anything was right in the world, that his working life would become this,” she said. She added that his success still feels rare and remarkable.
Their story stretches from being 18-year-olds navigating New York City in 1993 to becoming two of Hollywood’s most beloved actors. Through distance, career shifts, and decades of change, the bond has remained the same. And as Pascal wrote in his tribute, “You’re my friend, and I’m yours eternally.”
