Update: In his latest Instagram post, Morgan shared he’s back home from the hospital.
Beloved British Broadcaster Piers Morgan is recovering in hospital after suffering a serious fall at a London hotel restaurant that left him with a fractured femur and required a hip replacement. Even though Morgan earlier shared that he will need to use crutches for six weeks and has been advised to avoid long-haul travel for the next 12 weeks, he is in an uplifting mood.
Despite the severity of the injury, Morgan struck an upbeat tone as he updated followers from the hospital. Sharing an update with his fans, his words reflect a sense of fullness and gratitude, while focusing on recovery.
An Uplifting Message From the Hospital Bed
Sharing a heartfelt post on social media, Morgan thanked the friends and family who supported him during his hospital stay, opening with a message of gratitude.
“Lots of friends and family have been incredibly kind and generous during my hospital stay, for which I am incredibly grateful.”
He then shifted to a lighter note, highlighting a gesture from close friends that lifted his spirits while he recovered.
“But how about this.. My lovely mate @andreacatherwoodnews made a call to one our mutual favourite restaurateurs @mcmoop and asked if he might be able to send over some delicious recuperative food from his fabulous @devonshiresoho .. and being Oisin, he not only instantly agreed but he insisted on bringing it over himself on a Lime bike.”
Morgan went on to describe enjoying the meal while watching football from his hospital bed, blending humor with appreciation.
Getty“So as I watched Arsenal’s demolition of Inter Milan last night, I tucked into sensational lamb chops with all the trimmings. Almost as satisfying as my team’s scintillating performance. Thanks Oisin, and Andrea.”
He closed the message by looking ahead to better days, joking about the risks of returning to normal life once doctors give him the all-clear.
“Can’t wait to be back at the Devonshire as soon as my docs allow me to take the apparently hip-breaking risk of walking through a restaurant again.. !”
The post captured Morgan’s familiar wit and warmth, offering reassurance as he continues his recovery.
Details of the Accident & Surgery
Morgan earlier shared details of the accident in an Instagram post titled “BREAKING NEWS.” He explained that he tripped on a small step inside the restaurant and fell hard, later revealing that he had fractured the neck of his femur.
In the post, the 60-year-old said he “fell like a sack of spuds” and confirmed the injury was severe enough to require a new hip.
Alongside the message, he posted two images: a selfie from his hospital bed giving a thumbs-up and an X-ray showing the visible fracture.

Family Time, Football, and Looking Ahead
Just days before the accident, Morgan had been sharing lighter moments from a family vacation in Barbados.
On January 5, he posted about watching a favorite film with his sons.
“A vacation rite of passage: watching Fever Pitch with my Arsenal-mad sons. In 1989, when the movie based on Nick Hornby’s brilliant book is set, we were top of the League after Christmas, and after a few wobbles we went to Liverpool and beat them 2-0 in their own backyard to be Champions for the first time in 18 years.”
Morgan shares his sons, Spencer, Stanley, and Albert, with his first wife, Marion Shalloe.
He also shares a daughter, Elise, with his current wife, Celia Walden.
As he recovers, Morgan appears focused on gratitude, rest, and a careful return to normal life, leaning on humor, football, and the support of loved ones as he begins the road back to health.
