Quentin Tarantino Eyes Comeback Seven Years After His Last Movie

Director, actor, and author Quentin Tarantino has his eyes on a comeback to the entertainment industry seven years after helming his last movie.

Tarantino’s last film was 2019’s “One Upon a Time… in Hollywood.” He hasn’t put his name to any notable works since his 2022 nonfiction novel “Cinema Speculation.” However, he’s set to return to work in surprising fashion.

Now 62, Tarantino — who is noted for picking his projects carefully, and has only directed a total of 10 movies in the 34 years his first, “Reservoir Dogs” — is looking to develop his first stage play for London’s West End.

According to British newspaper The Daily Mail, Quentin Tarantino is looking to bring a “classic British trouser dropping” farce to the iconic stages of the West End.

Tarantino first revealed his next project would be a West End play in August 2025. The filmmaker was speaking on “The Tarantino Interview” episode of “The Church of Tarantino” podcast.

He told the host, “The play is written. It is absolutely the next thing I’m going to do. We’ll start the ball rolling on it in January… It’s probably going to take up a year and a half to two years of my life.”

On March 6, The Mail finally revealed what “it” is. The publication states he has written “an original, old-fashioned British farce, in the door-slamming, trouser-dropping, mistaken identity vein of Brian Rix or Ray Cooney.”

Despite Tarantino’s assertation that it could take up to two years, The Mail suggests late 2026 is still a remote possibility for its arrival to the stage.

He is said to be perusing theaters to gauge the correct size of the stage for his show. He is also negotiating with several major Hollywood stars to appear in it. It’s said that his usual big screen choices, like Leonardo DiCaprio, aren’t believed to be being considered.

It Will Be Unlike Anything He’s Done Before

Quentin Tarantino has never directed a play before, so it will already be unlike anything he’s ever done. Add in the fact that it’ll be a farce, and he’ll undoubtedly be venturing into completely unknown territory.

Per IMDb, Tarantino’s directorial filmography comprises 1992’s “Reservoir Dogs,” 1994’s “Pulp Fiction,” 1997’s “Jackie Brown,” 2003’s “Kill Bill: Volume 1,” 2004’s “Kill Bill: Volume 2,” 2007’s “Death Proof,” 2009’s “Inglourious Basterds,” 2012’s “Django Unchained,” 2015’s “The Hateful Eight,” and 2019’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”

As a writer or producer, his other projects include 1993’s “True Romance,” 1994’s “Natural Born Killers,” 1996’s “From Dusk till Dawn,” and 2007’s “Planet Terror.”

It makes for incredibly impressive reading. However, there are clearly no farces amongst it. Whether or not he has what it takes to make a classic British farce remains to be seen.

For an idea of what Tarantino will have to achieve, try to imagine him directing 1973’s “No Sex Please, We’re British,” 1988’s “A Fish Called Wanda,” or any movie in the “Carry On” franchise. Suffice it to say, he’ll have quite the task on his hands adapting his usual style.

We’re excited to see what he comes up with, and which Hollywood stars he gets on board. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long to find out. Moreover, hopefully, it won’t put an unwanted blot on Tarantino’s portfolio.
